Know any upcoming high school sophomores - seniors who would be interested in studying marine and rainforest ecology for the first ten weeks of the upcoming school year in Alaska? And interacting with what they see in the natural world through art? And learning survival and outdoor skills as well? And having history and literature come alive with place-based, integrated curriculum? And kayaking, hiking, foraging, fishing, and more in extremely beautiful wilderness as part of their instruction and in their free time? And experiencing life in a small off-grid Alaskan boardwalk town for an adventure of a lifetime?!
Our school here in Port Alexander --on a remote part of the rugged coast of an island in Alaska's Alexander Archipelago, part of the largest temperate rainforest in the world-- is again looking for academically-motivated upcoming 10th-12th grade students from diverse backgrounds from around the country who would be interested in the opportunity to complete the first quarter of the coming school year (2024/25) here as part of our Alaska Tides to Tongass Science and Arts Academy. $850 covers travel from Sitka (AK), meals and housing for the entire duration, and all course materials-- with needs-based scholarships available.
