The kids are back, and our hearts are full! 💛🌱

We are so happy to welcome our students back to school this week!

Our balanced school calendar allows us to align learning with the traditional Lakota seasonal cycle, giving students the opportunity to experience important summer teachings in real time.

Before summer break, our students planted flowers and vegetables in the garden. This week, they returned to find those plants thriving and some ready to harvest. Seeing the full journey—from planting and caring for the garden to harvesting and enjoying the food—helps them understand the complete garden-to-table cycle while strengthening their connection to the land, healthy foods, and Lakota lifeways.

We're excited for another year of learning, growing, and nurturing the next generation together. T̄aƞyaƞ yahi!🌽🥕🍅💚

🐄🌾 Owayawa Bebela Goes to the Farm! 🌾🐄
To celebrate the end of the school year, our Owayawa Bebela classroom enjoyed a special field trip to the Old McDonald's farm! The children had the opportunity to explore, learn, and connect with the animals.

Throughout the day, they observed farm animals, practiced kindness and respect for all living things, and experienced hands-on learning outside of the classroom. These experiences help strengthen children's understanding of where food comes from, their relationship with the land, and their role as caretakers of creation.

In the last week of school, the Owayawa Cikala and Tanka Classrooms visited the Oyate Teca Project to tour their greenhouses and gain insights into their programs. Every student was able to take home their own plants, which they could choose to plant either at home or in the school garden.

We wanted to share this wonderful resource with everyone. Our very own Unci Martha played an important role in its creation, traveling to North Dakota to collaborate with Standing Rock Iyápi Program over the past several years to actively contribute her knowledge, voice, and guidance throughout the process.

Congratulations, Unci Martha, and pilamaya for the time, dedication, and wisdom you shared to help create something that will benefit future generations. We are grateful for your commitment to preserving and passing on knowledge for our children, grandchildren, and all those yet to come. ❤️💛🖤🤍
