Clarification: Last Friday I made comments to the media in reference to Our ongoing Illegal gambling investigations .
The comment I'm referring to was that Our agency operates mostly in the rural areas but we decided " enough was enough " I'm told some perceived that comment as derogatory towards the Poplar Bluff Police Dept.
I can assure you that is not the case and not my intent . Chief JR Keirsey and I had many conversations about the matter prior to the investigations start as he and I work well together on a regular basis .
Although Chief Keirsey wanted to assist we decided to conduct the investigation independently. This was done out of concern for what we believe to be a potential conflict of interest . A Poplar Bluff City official was and still is a potential person of Interest in the investigation .
As the investigation continues The Chief and I have regular conversations about the matter . He and his officers are assisting us going forward now that all of the initial portion has been completed .
Having said that I stand by my my original statements that "enough is enough" .We will be requesting formal criminal charges on several individuals in the near future .
I realize there is more work to be done . Other businesses who continue to conduct illegal Gambling operations will face the same enforcement actions .
