Always stay prepared

Let’s talk evacuation and the difference between an evacuation order and mandatory evacuation order.

➡️An evacuation order is a general statement encouraging residents to leave an area because of anticipated hazards. Residents should carefully consider the risks, their location, and their ability to evacuate safely.

➡️A mandatory evacuation order is an executive directive requiring residents, visitors, businesses, and others within the identified area to evacuate. When a mandatory evacuation is issued, residents should leave as soon as directed and follow official evacuation routes and instructions.

‼️Choosing to remain in an area under a mandatory evacuation order can expose you to flooding, storm surge, falling trees, structural damage, blocked roads, and extended utility outages. Residents should continue to call 911 during an emergency; however, when conditions are deemed unsafe, first responder agencies may delay or temporarily suspend field response. Calls will continue to be received and prioritized, and response operations will resume when conditions allow.

The City of Pooler invites students passionate about their community and serving others to apply for the Pooler Youth Council. This leadership program is designed for high school students who want to make a positive impact and get involved in their community. Pooler Youth Council will give participants firsthand experience in local government and public service.

Members will share ideas, learn from city leaders, take part in community initiatives, and build skills that prepare them for future leadership opportunities. The program runs September through May, annually. Members are required to attend monthly Pooler Youth Council meetings and City Council meetings, in addition to select special events and an overnight trip to the Georgia State Capital in February.

Applicants should:
-Be a resident of the City of Pooler
-Be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the current school year
-Be committed to serving their community
-Have leadership potential and a willingness to learn
-Have the ability to actively participate in required meetings and events
-Be responsible, professional, and have respect for others
-Be interested in local government and civic engagement
-Be open-minded and willing to work with their peers
