We were honored to welcome Dr. Eric Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at Northern Illinois University, to Pontiac Township High School to work with our choirs as part of our Guest Conductor Series!
Dr. Johnson brings an extraordinary level of experience to the podium. He is the 2020 recipient of the Illinois American Choral Directors Association’s Harold Decker Award, recognizing distinguished leadership and service to the choral art, and was a 2019 National Endowment for the Arts Art Works grant recipient. Ensembles under his direction have performed at multiple national and division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and Music Educators National Conference.
Under Dr. Johnson’s leadership, the NIU Chamber Choir has also served as resident chapel choir at both Canterbury and Worcester Cathedrals in England and has performed at international choral festivals in Sweden, Denmark, and Poland.
Our students learned a tremendous amount during their time with Dr. Johnson. They were incredibly responsive to his instruction and suggestions, and it was exciting to hear the immediate difference his ideas made in their singing. Experiences like this give our students the opportunity to hear new perspectives, refine their musicianship, and work with outstanding educators from beyond our own program.
We are very grateful to Dr. Johnson for sharing his time, expertise, and musicianship with our students and for helping make our Guest Conductor Series such a valuable part of the PTHS choral experience!
