💙💚THIS IS WHAT MAKING A DIFFERENCE LOOKS LIKE. 💚💙
Sometimes, the people who make the biggest impact are the ones who never expect anyone to notice.
Today, we notice.
And we could not be more proud to celebrate Mr. Alex Martinez — Valley Ridge Academy’s School-Related Employee of the Year. 🏆
If you know Mr. Alex, you already know.
He is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He lights up a room simply by walking into it, and he is often one of the very first smiling faces our Hawks see when they arrive at school each morning.
But here’s the thing about Mr. Alex…
He doesn’t just take care of our school.
He takes care of the people inside it.
Remember when we told you about our incredible custodial team? The high fives. The footballs thrown back and forth. The races with students. The hallway conversations. Asking about their day. Noticing a new outfit. Knowing our kids and genuinely wanting to know how they’re doing?
Well…
We have receipts. 🥹
Just look at these pictures.
Look at those hands reaching up for a high five.
Look at the smiles.
Look at the kids turning toward him as he walks by.
That isn’t something you can put in a job description.
That is connection.
And if you really want to know what kind of person Mr. Alex is, don’t just ask the adults.
Ask the kids.
💬 “He is always kind, a hard worker and helps everyone.”
💬 “Mr. Alex always makes me laugh.”
💬 “Mr. Alex always waves at me.”
💬 “Everyone in my class loves Mr. Alex.”
Kids notice the people who notice them.
And Mr. Alex notices them.
The child who needs a laugh.
The one looking for a high five.
The one who wants to tell him something.
The one who simply needs another adult at school to make them feel like they belong.
Day after day, in hundreds of seemingly ordinary moments, Mr. Alex sends our Hawks one incredibly important message:
I see you.
I’m glad you’re here.
You matter.
And maybe that’s why this recognition feels so incredibly special.
Because Mr. Alex is a living example of the very qualities we spend every day trying to instill in our students.
Be kind.
Work hard.
Help others.
Choose joy.
Make people feel included.
Leave a place better than you found it.
He doesn’t just demonstrate those things when someone is watching.
It is simply who he is.
And VRA is even luckier because this is truly a family affair. His wonderful wife, Ms. Alba, is also part of our VRA team, and their daughter Samantha is one of our very own little VPK Hawks. 🥹🦅
There is something incredibly special about seeing a family pour so much of themselves into the same community that is helping their own little Hawk grow.
Mr. Alex, you spend your days making sure our school is taken care of.
But somewhere along the way, through thousands of high fives, smiles, jokes, conversations and moments of kindness…
You became part of what makes VRA feel like home.
So today, for every child you’ve made laugh…
For every student you’ve made feel important…
For every helping hand you’ve offered without being asked…
For every morning you’ve made a little brighter…
And for all of the things you do when you think nobody is paying attention…
We see you, Mr. Alex.
We see the difference you make.
And judging by all those little hands reaching for yours…
our Hawks see it, too.
Congratulations to Alex Martinez, our School-Related Employee of the Year.
There could not be a more deserving Hawk.
Together We Soar — and the Ridge is a better place because you are on it.
