It doesn't get much cuter than this! 🐾📚🧡

Every year, our friends at PAFE give every LPOSD first grader a reading puppy to read with, learn with, and keep throughout their elementary years (and, for many students, long after!). As students reach reading milestones, they can even earn new supplies for their puppy along the way.

It’s an incredibly fun tradition, but it’s also part of something much bigger. Between PAFE’s Ready to Read program and READY! for Kindergarten workshops, our Every Student Graduates a Reader initiative, and the work happening in our classrooms every day, our youngest readers have an entire community cheering them on.

That collective effort is making a difference: LPOSD now ranks #2 in the state for K–3 reading among Idaho’s 25 largest traditional public school districts! 🎉

Thank you, Panhandle Alliance for Education, for being such an important part of that success!

Students of all grades and from all schools are invited to attend Life After High School on September 23 at Sandpoint High School. Connect with more than 30 universities and organizations, explore post-high school options, and get help with scholarships, financial aid, Idaho LAUNCH, and more.

What a way to kick off a new school year! 🎉💙

LPOSD staff gathered this morning for our annual Welcome Back Breakfast and Presentation - connecting, learning and getting ready to welcome students back next week!

A huge thank you to Panhandle Alliance for Education for hosting breakfast and treating our staff to such a wonderful start to the day. PAFE is an incredible champion for education in our community, supporting our students and educators in so many ways throughout the year.

We also celebrated this year’s PAFE Teacher Grant recipients and we can’t wait to see their ideas come to life in classrooms across the district!

Throughout the morning, staff had opportunities to learn and connect around ideas and strategies for supporting our students and one another.

As we head into 2026–27, it’s pretty incredible to think about the more than 600 LPOSD staff members serving more than 3,800 students across our district. We are so grateful for the people who make this work possible and for the community partners, like PAFE, who are right there alongside us.

We’re excited for the year ahead! 🎉

📚 UPDATED LPOSD ACADEMIC RANKINGS

Last week, we shared the ISAT and Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) rankings. Shortly after our post, the rankings were updated and we have even more to celebrate!

Among Idaho's 25 largest traditional public school districts, LPOSD ranks:

📚 #2 in Reading — IRI (K-3rd Grade)
➗ #3 in Math — ISAT
✏️ #4 in English Language Arts — ISAT

We also saw some questions in the comments about what proficient means on the ISAT, and we want to provide a little context.

The ISAT uses four achievement levels: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient and Advanced. Proficient is a specific, rigorous benchmark - not the same as simply passing or failing. So when 64% of LPOSD students score proficient or advanced in ELA and 54% in math, that does not mean the remaining students are “failing.” It means 64% and 54%, respectively, reached or exceeded the proficiency benchmark on that assessment.

There is always more growth to pursue, and we remain focused on building on this progress. Behind these numbers are students working hard, educators supporting and challenging them every day, and families and community members who continue to show up for our schools.

We are incredibly proud of our students and staff, grateful for the community behind them, and believe every bit of progress is worth celebrating. 🎉

🎒✨ Back to school is almost here!

We’re so excited to welcome students back and kick off another great year at LPOSD! We hope you’ve had a fantastic summer filled with plenty of fun, rest, and time together.

As we head into the final stretch of summer break, this is a great week to start easing back into school routines — earlier bedtimes, morning schedules, backpacks ready, and all the little things that help make the first day a little smoother.

🖍️ Kindergarten: First full day is September 10
