The last week of summer classes for Mrs. Larussa's Little Learners was busy but fun.
Terry the Tarantula and Susan the Spider visited again and Susan spun a silk nest in the corner of her home! We learned about bees, crickets, and ants this week, and after a busy day of learning each day, the children loved working on the train sets and a cool marble run.
I hope that your child has a new respect for God's creations, including so many of the amazing "Cool Crawlers".

Mrs. Larussa's Little Scientists had a very special visitor this week as we studied spiders. Amara's pet tarantula, Terry, was the highlight of our week.
The children also worked on their Cool Crawler books and had fun playing a sensory game called "Guess the Bug" by using their sense of touch only.
We made cute spider crafts. The children enjoyed roasted marshmallows over our "campfire" in our camping dramatic play area. ❤️🐻

Mrs. Larussa's Little Scientists loved learning about ladybugs this week. We "built" a ladybug together and learned about its life cycle. They practiced symmetry when painting the spots on their craft and our wall mural is filling up with lots of cool crawlers.

Mrs. Larussa's Little Scientists learned about pillbugs this week. They loved observing them up close and learned that they belong to the family of crustaceans. We had several fun table work activities, such as "Build a Pillbug", " Race to Spell Pillbug", and a Find and Count Bug book. The children added their pillbug craft to our wall mural and we all had a blast enjoying the mild weather. They also love checking on our little garden and are excited about all the tomatoes growing. Have a wonderful 4th of July holiday! 🇺🇲

Mrs. Larussa's Little Entomologists learned about caterpillars and butterflies this week.
After observing the stages of a butterfly, we released our Painted Lady Butterflies and watched them fly away. We are now observing a monarch caterpillar that I brought from my garden.
They painted Smash Butterflies at the easel - painting one wing, folding it together, and smashing it for symmetrical wings and had fun coloring coffee filters with markers and spraying with water to make beautiful butterflies to add to our wall mural. They also enjoyed decorating the covers of their Cool Crawlers activity books using watercolors and stickers, and practicing songs and poems about bugs. They were excited to decorate Father's Day presents as well. We have been enjoying the outdoors as much as possible before the summer heat hits us!
