With a heavy heart, we learned another Wildcat lost a parent. Chipper Paris’ mom passed away. She was a very kind lady and very patient with all the kids running in & out of their house. Such great memories. We are sending lots of love & prayers of comfort to the Paris Family. She will be missed 🙏🏻❤️💙

View Beth Paris's obituary, contribute to their memorial, see their funeral service details, and more.

Ernest Whitworth Marland came to Kay County in the early 1900s and turned the land beneath Ponca City into one of the world's great oil fortunes — at his peak controlling roughly 10 percent of the global oil supply. He commissioned the 55-room Marland Mansion modeled after a Florentine Renaissance palace, with Italian craftsmen brought across the Atlantic specifically for the project. He later lost his fortune to Wall Street bankers, ran for governor of Oklahoma, and won. The mansion still stands as a museum and one of the state's most visited historic sites.

E.W. Marland struck oil in Ponca City and built an empire — then a palace. The Marland Mansion still stands as one of Oklahoma's most extraordinary monuments to ambition, wealth, and the fleeting nature of both.
