Dear Building Blocks Families,
Over the next several weeks and months, you are going to see a lot happening around Building Blocks! We will be reorganizing, cleaning, changing spaces, adding materials, and preparing to apply for accreditation. So, please excuse our messes along the way. ❤️ There is a purpose behind all of it.
I am calling this our reset.
After many years of growing, expanding, and trying to meet the childcare needs of as many families in our community as possible, I have decided it is time to settle down and pour my energy into one program.
When I originally started this journey, my vision was simple: to build a strong foundation where children feel safe, loved, and free to learn and grow.
Over the years, that vision grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined. When our community needed childcare, I kept expanding. Then COVID happened, and my focus became helping as many families as possible continue working and providing for their families. At one point, I was responsible for nearly 300 children and 65 employees, while also preparing to welcome another little one of my own.
We accomplished some incredible things, and I am proud of the families we were able to help. But somewhere in all that growth, responsibility, and simply trying to keep everything going, I lost sight of some of my original vision.
Then life got the best of me for a while. The last few years brought personal changes, childcare funding and budget cuts, and challenges I never expected. Stepping away and operating my home program gave me time to slow down, process everything, and really think about what I want the next chapter to look like.
And I realized something:
I don't want to keep getting bigger. I want to get better.
I want Building Blocks to be a place where our teachers have the environment, materials, support, and freedom they need to love, care for, and teach your babies — and yes, I don't care how old they are, they are ALL our babies. ❤️
As part of this reset, I want to bring my faith back into the foundation of what we do and begin moving toward becoming a more faith-based program. Over time, I also want to incorporate more Montessori-inspired practices into our classrooms — creating spaces that encourage independence, exploration, responsibility, hands-on learning, and respect for each child's individual development.
This isn't something that will happen overnight. I want to make changes thoughtfully and intentionally, and accreditation will be another important part of raising the standard we set for ourselves.
You will also be seeing a lot more of me.
I have placed Little Builders, my home program, on inactive status because I will be having elbow surgery within the next couple of weeks, followed by approximately 3–4 months of recovery. After Ms. Courtney's resignation, I have stepped into the Assistant Director role, so you will see me throughout the program during the day and at closing.
And if you see me running around like a crazy person trying to get 47 things accomplished at once, I promise I'm not on drugs — it's caffeine. 😆😬
Also, please don't report me to HR. 😂 I'm currently on lifting restrictions and technically not supposed to be overusing my arm. I promise I will follow the doctor's orders after surgery... or at least I'm going to try really hard!
On a serious note, yes, the program is still for sale. That has not changed. But I also made a promise that while Building Blocks is mine, I will continue providing care for our families — and I don't want to simply provide childcare. I want to provide the best program we possibly can.
I have an incredible group of teachers who genuinely want to love, care for, and teach children. My responsibility is to give them the best environment possible to do exactly that.
So please bear with us through the rearranging, projects, messes, new ideas, and changes you may see.
We aren't just cleaning up classrooms.
We are rebuilding our vision.
We are getting back to our foundation, strengthening what we already do well, learning where we can do better, and creating a program that our children, families, and teachers can be proud to call theirs.
Thank you for continuing to trust us with your babies and for being part of this next chapter of Building Blocks.
Here's to our reset. ❤️
With love,
Mellissa
