Gray FishTag Research Gray FishTag Research is a non profit, all species, international, fish tagging and research program. All fish species in every ocean are being monitored.

Gray FishTag Research (GFR) is a 501(c)(3) Non-profit organization. This is an international and fully interactive fish tagging program powered by the world’s largest network of fishing professionals consisting of approximately 10,000 charter boat captains and mates. GFR is an essential tool for promoting the sustainability of marine game fish and increasing public resource awareness. The program is collecting information in real-time, producing valuable scientific data, directly from fishermen in every part of the world. We are connecting professional fishermen and angling enthusiasts with the scientific community who is desperate for relevant data. Billfish, sharks, general offshore and inshore fish species are being tracked and recorded. Results provide scientists and biologists with valuable information on migration patterns, fish stocks, growth rates, habitat depths and much more. The data collected is being analyzed and used for scientific purposes and shared with any interested parties at NO COST. The success of the program is made possible by the participation of the hard-working fishing professionals, our Official Research Centers, and the generous contributions from our donors and sponsors. Our pledge is also to continue to offer all tags, applicators, data cards, hands-on training and support to the professional fisherman for FREE; as this continues to be the key to accurate data and the success of the program. The Mission of Gray FishTag Research

Our mission is to support the charter sportfishing industry and overall fishing community while producing valuable data to marine science research. Gray FishTag Research is bridging the gap between professional charter fishermen and the science community, in an effort to sustain our fisheries for our future generations.

On May 26th the crew on the Tyman, captained by Chuck Many, was fishing offshore Monmouth County, New Jersey and had the opportunity to deploy another satellite tag on a beautiful 48 lb. Striped bass. Captain Clint Lessard of ShoNuff fishing fought the 49” fish for almost 10 minutes before landing it and attaching the satellite tracker. Bob Bowden and Gregory Lessard were also aboard assisting with the deployment. The tag is another step in the Northeast Striped Bass study and should yield results in the next 5 months. Way to go team.

Team Work! Tagging our first ever Cubera Snapper didn’t come easy.

Two Strike 35’s filled with the crews at Crocodile Bay , a number of roosterfish tagged with GFR tags and at the last hour our candidate was identified. After a boat to boat transfer the microPAT satellite tag was deployed.

Stay tuned for updates!

Our team arrived at GFR Research Center Crocodile Bay

In our pursuit of Cubera Snapper migration knowledge our goal is to deploy the FIRST EVER satellite tag. This incredible game fish is heavily concentrated right in the Golfito Dulce.

A big THANK YOU to Crocodile Bay Lodge for their dedication and commitment to this project.

Stay tuned for updates!
