CalGeo Cal Poly Pomona

CalGeo Cal Poly Pomona CalGeo is a student branch of the professional chapter of the California Geotechnical Engineering Association.

This organization is made up of geotechnical engineers who deal with issues regarding geotechnical engineering practice and development in California. Cal Poly Pomona is the first university to establish a student chapter of CalGeo. Geotechnical Engineering is the branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering uses principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics to investigate subsurface conditions and materials; determine the relevant physical/mechanical and chemical properties of these materials; evaluate stability of natural slopes and man-made soil deposits; assess risks posed by site conditions; design earthworks and structure foundations; and monitor site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction.

Hello,

This Friday, October 27, CalGeo will be hosting a tech tour of the new student housing project on campus. We will be meeting up at the old parking structure at 10:30 AM and walking over to the site from there. The tour will be from 11 AM-12 PM. Neal Berliner from GeoCon will be guiding us through the site explaining the pile system foundation they are installing and we will have the chance to see augere cast piles being installed.

Hard hats and vests will be provided for the tour, wear some pants and boots (closed toed shoes will be fine). A safety release form is required to be signed before entering the job site which you can do the day of when we meet up at the parking structure.

Afterwords we will be heading over to the Engineering Career Fair, so bring some clothes for that. If you are interested in attending contact me, my contact info is below.
