oSTEM at Cal Poly Pomona

oSTEM will be collabing with the Google Developer Student Club for our next meeting: “Let’s Talk About Artificial Intelligence”! This Tuesday, March 21 in the Library, Rm. 1808 during U-Hour!

GDSC will be introducing what their club is all about. Their upcoming Solutions Challenge is an opportunity to work towards a goal by utilizing one or more of Google's products or platforms to potentially win Google swag, cash prizes, and create a life-changing project!

We’ll also be discussing AI and its implications on the future of tech, content creation, etc.

We will be having a social type meeting this Tuesday February 21st during U-Hour! We will be meeting in the Horse Stables Courtyard (outside the Pride Center, across from the Bronco Student Center!) Some chips will be provided, but please do bring some lunch and hang out with your fellow oSTEM peeps!!! (: Hope to see y'all there!

oSTEM's first meeting of the semester will be THIS TUESDAY, Feb. 7th from 12pm-1pm in the Library Rm. 1808! E-board will be doing the usual club intro for new folx, with an emphasis on explaining what it's like to be a club officer! Then we’ll play some jackbox :0)

All current e-board are graduating next year, so we sincerely appreciate folx considering applying to help keep our club alive! :D Joining eboard is a rewarding opportunity to support LGBTQ+ students on campus, gain some leadership and resume experience!

Content Warnings: Police Brutality, Death, Shootings, Racism, Incarceration

oSTEM @ CPP maintains a strong stance against police brutality, in light of the recent murders of Tyre Nichols and Keenan Anderson. Mr. Nichols was a skateboarder and artist, Mr. Anderson was a teacher, and both were fathers with many aspirations. With the images and videos floating around recently, we encourage our fellow students to seek support from the , CAPS, or any of the cultural centers.

We acknowledge that the American prison-industrial complex has always been built upon racist foundations, and that it funds and enables law enforcement who violently abuse their authority, especially over Black and Brown citizens. This loss of life also serves as a reminder of the need to reform the way we as a society handle mental health. In lieu of criminalization and police action, we need to treat it as a social concern addressed with community programs and rehabilitation.

We want to raise awareness of the proposed Cop City, set to destroy a last-remaining forest in Atlanta to build a police training complex. Its construction would threaten the Black communities of Atlanta with more over-policing. Protests have even resulted in the police also killing nonbinary Latinx activist, Manuel “Tortuguita” Esteban Paez Terán.

Along the same vein, oSTEM @ CPP also maintains an anti-gun stance overall, especially in light of the recent mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay this past month. We also acknowledge the continuing patterns of Asian hate and mourn the loss of life.

The fight needs to continue to defund the police, abolish the prison-industrial complex, and ban gun accessibility at local and federal levels.

Hey homies, semester's winding down to the last official oSTEM meeting of the year! Tie-Dye Day will be THIS FRIDAY (12/2) from 12:30pm - 2:30pm in the Library, Rm. 1808! Come pick up your club shirts from last semester to finally tie-dye them! If you weren't able to order a club shirt last semester, DM us to have priority for a blank white t-shirt to tie-dye on Friday.

Shirts and dyes will also be shipped out in the coming weeks for those who are unable to pick-up on Friday.

TOMORROW, on Tuesday 11/29, .sciencecouncil will be holding a Wellness Activity with lots of games and giveaways in front of Building 8 during U-Hour. Feel free to drop by to have some fun and de-stress!

Helo ya q***r kids: next week we'll be having a 3D Printing Workshop on TUESDAY (11/22) from 12pm-1pm in the Library, Rm. 1802. SIIL is going to teach y'all how to get your first prints started on-campus for personal or class projects! The Maker Studio on the 2nd Floor of the Library is where y'all can get free 3D printing; more info available at the meeting!

Our next meeting will be a Resume/Cover Letter Workshop THIS TUESDAY (11/8) from 12pm-1pm in the Library Rm. 1802, to help y'all polish your resumes for internship app season! We also hope to cover some interview tips as well. Presented by the Career Center!

Let’s talk Props! We’ll be summarizing and facilitating an open discussion on all of the ballot's CA Propositions ON TUESDAY (10/25) from 12pm-1pm in the Library, Rm. 1802!

FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED! BUT priority goes to all the members who attended our last meeting!!

This meeting is in collab with , the Young Democratic Socialists of America at CPP club!

Hopefully we can help clear up confusion and discuss the best course of action for the betterment of our intersecting communities.

Join us THIS TUESDAY in honoring those who paved the way for us by learning their history whilst enjoying some good food and tunes! This meeting will be held in the Library Rm. 1823 during U-hour (12pm-1pm).

Tomorrow is the National Day of Student Action for Bodily Autonomy! The Young Democratic Socialists of America @ CPP will be tabling in front of the BSC TOMORROW, from 12pm-1pm, handing out resources and education on why you should vote YES on Prop 1 this upcoming election. Stop by to learn more about how this would help reinforce the reproductive rights folx have over their own bodies at the state level, since the federal government threatens to take them away.
