Live and Love Like Caden 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Pomeroy School District will be providing each student and staff member with a memorial bracelet for Caden Bennett, generously provided by Caden’s family.

On September 15, at the first youth football game, Caden will also be honored with the display of his number. If you are inclined, please come and cheer on the young pirates!

We are grateful to Caden’s family for allowing our school and community to join together in honoring him.

What a great first three weeks of school! ❤️ Thank you for sharing your awesome kiddos with us. We have loved seeing all the smiles, hugs, and excitement for learning!

We could use a little help with one thing however, breakfast!😊 We love that students are eating breakfast at school, but some kiddos are playing at recess first, heading over pretty late, or taking a little detour through the high school before eating. This is causing some students to be late to class and miss instruction.

If your child eats breakfast at school, please remind them to head straight to breakfast when they arrive. All buses are here by 8:05, so there is plenty of time to eat, and for those who don’t ride the bus, our amazing kitchen crew is ready to serve starting at 7:30!

Thanks for helping us get everyone fed and to class on time! ❤️

🏕️ 6th Grade Camp – Cabin Parents DESPERATELY Needed! 🏕️ Camp is September 21st-24th!

We are desperately in need of cabin parents for 6th Grade Camp! We need enough adult volunteers in order for our students to attend camp, and if we do not have enough cabin parents, we may not be able to attend. 😢

We are looking for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or other family members who would be willing to join us and help make camp a fun and memorable experience for our students! ❤️

One very important requirement: Cabin parents must be able to stay for the entire camp experience, from start to finish. This is an overnight commitment, and cabin parents will stay with and help supervise their assigned cabin group throughout the week.

For the safety of all our students, all volunteers will be required to complete a background check before attending camp.

If you are able to commit to the entire week of camp and are willing to help, please reach out to me as soon as possible. We truly need your help to make camp possible for our 6th graders! 🏕️

🎉 A Great First Week! 🎉

We had a wonderful first week of school with all of our TK–5th grade students back on campus! Our students seem to be adjusting so well to their new routines and expectations. I’m sure we have some tired kiddos (and probably some tired adults, too!) after a busy week. 😊

As we head into next week, I want to share a quick reminder about morning drop-off and playground expectations. For the safety of all of our students, we ask that parents drop students off at the playground and remain outside of the playground area. If you would like to stay until the 8:15 bell rings, you are absolutely welcome to do so, we just ask that you remain outside the playground.

Our district safety protocol requires any parent or visitor who is on the playground or inside the school building to first check in at the office and receive a visitor pass. This helps our staff quickly recognize who has checked in and been cleared to be on campus.

Remaining outside the playground also helps our younger students make that important transition from parent care to school. We often find that goodbyes can actually be harder, and the tears last a little longer, when parents stay on the playground. So, give your kiddo a hug, send them our way, and know they are in good hands!

One last important reminder: playground supervision begins at 8:05 a.m. Students who arrive before 8:05 are not yet under school supervision, so please plan drop-off accordingly.

Dear Pomeroy Elementary Families,

I hope everyone has had a great start to the school year! I just wanted to send a message to remind families that school counseling services are available to all students at Pomeroy Elementary. Our goal is to support students with their social, emotional, and academic needs and to help them have a positive and successful school experience.

Please know that counseling services do not automatically continue from one school year to the next. If your child received counseling services in the past and you would like for them to continue this year, please feel free to reach out to me or their teacher. Likewise, if your child has never participated in counseling services but you feel they could benefit from them, I would be happy to connect with them.

Tomorrow is the first day of school for grades 1st -5th
grade, and we are so excited to have our students back in the building! The sixth grade students will start their morning over at the high school.

As many of you know, work on our new HVAC system is still being completed in some areas of the building. Our classrooms have been completed (mostly), and our teachers and staff have worked incredibly hard with the VERY SHORT window they were given to get their rooms cleaned, organized, and ready to welcome
students.

Each classroom has been provided with a portable AC unit to use for the time being. We have also been monitoring and testing the air quality throughout the building, and we are happy to share that
all areas tested have had fantastic readings.

Because Back-to-School Night had to be canceled, we know students didn’t have the usual opportunity to bring their school supplies and other items to their classrooms ahead of time. Our biggest priority tomorrow is to give our students a smooth, welcoming first day and allow our teachers and staff to focus their attention on greeting students and helping them settle in.

For the first day, we are asking students to bring only the supplies
they can comfortably carry in their backpacks.

Students will begin their morning on the playground as usual. Teachers and staff will meet their students on the playground at 8:15. From there, teachers will walk their classes around the building to the front entrance, where our entire staff will be waiting to welcome them back to school! ❤️ Parents are more than welcome to remain outside and watch as students make their way into the building.

If you have additional school supplies that need to be dropped off, please bring them to the elementary library. We will have counter space clearly labeled for each teacher where items can be
left. This will help prevent classrooms from being overwhelmed with supplies all at once and allow teachers to organize those items when they have time.

For our TK and Kindergarten students, they can bring all of their suppliesand items when they attend their WA Kids meetings with their teacher on Wednesday,
Thursday or Friday!
Our goal tomorrow is simple: let the first day be about our kids. We want them to feel welcomed, excited, comfortable, and ready for a great year, without worrying about all the extras.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as our staff and crews continue working hard to get everything finished.

We can’t wait to see our students tomorrow and kick off another great school year!
