Looking ahead to the 2026-27 school year, PRHS will be building on the positive changes we made this year to our personal electronic devices practices as Maine law and RSU16 policy now prohibit student use of personal electronic devices for the duration of the school day, from starting bell to dismissal bell. As the policy states:
The intent of this policy is to support a focused learning environment, minimize distractions, and promote student social and emotional well-being by regulating the use of student personal cell phones, smart watches, and other personal electronic devices (PEDs) during the school day.
We started talking with students in SRB and in Roundtables about these changes to answer questions and gather feedback to make as smoothly as possible the transition to the new expectations for:
Cell phones
Smartwatches
Other personal electronic devices with internet or cellular network capabilities
Starting on August 26, 2026 when the 7:10am bell rings and PRHS students enter the building, all personal electronic devices will need to be turned off and placed in backpacks. If a student does not have a backpack or bag, the device will need to be left in the office.
