Brynn, Bailey, Camee, Mallory, Caydence, Anabelle, Emily and Evan presented their From Holocaust to Maine slideshows at the Maine Jewish Museum about Holocaust survivors that moved to Maine. The audience celebrated them for their depth of research, heartfelt delivery and maturity of presenting such a difficult topic. Afterwards everyone was treated to more discussion and lunch and dessert of Jewish foods that included falafel, hummus, bagels and lox, black and white cookies, raspberry ruggelach and lemon-ricotta noodle kugel.

Six 7th graders attended the MLTI conference in Orono, Maine. They attended sessions with middle schoolers around the state. They learned about using Canva to make videos and they attended a session on AI. It was a great day!

The class of 2028 is doing a pickleball and basketball play day on June 7. We are welcoming everyone in the community to participate and sign up for it.

Just in time for this Memorial Day weekend, we have 7th grade students who have created some AMAZING biographies for Civil War veterans of Mechanic Falls, Minot, and Poland. They used primary sources and local historical documents to make historical write-ups. This was an opportunity to gain a better appreciation for the hard work of historians and, more importantly, the sacrifice asked of our communities during that conflict.

These were the men from Mechanic Falls, Minot, and Poland who marched into war, willing to sacrifice everything—many giving their lives—to save the Union and hold the nation together.

Last year, the Auburn Middle School principal reached out to see if we may be interested in being connected with members of the National Guard and a program they were offering called Keep It Real. The program is intended to teach social, emotional, and resistance skills through a 10-week curriculum based on the acronym REAL: Refuse, Explain, Avoid, and Leave. The program uses interactive lessons, role-playing, videos produced by youth, and real-life scenarios to help students avoid high-risk behaviors and make healthy choices regarding alcohol, to***co, and other drugs.

The program has been great, but the connection with Sergeant First Class CJ Lasselle has been greater. CJ has done a wonderful job working with our students and getting to know them through the program. Last week, CJ wrapped up his curriculum for the school year. We are very thankful for his involvement at our school and care for our kids.
