Getting ready for the new year! We accomplished a lot during our Family Work Day today…setting up classrooms, power washing and cleaning sorts of the things, spreading wood chips, starting our Gaga ball pit, and a tasty BBQ lunch. Thanks everyone! 🌊🌲

And that’s a wrap! This was the final week of our summer ELO program and we went out with a bang. Three river days with kayaking on the Gualala, a quick dip in the Navarro, and an afternoon on the Garcia. A tour and cheese tasting at Pennyroyal Farm. A pizza and ice cream party with farm-fresh toppings and wild huckleberry compote. Thanks to all of the kiddos who joined us this summer and shout out to our staff for facilitating a fun and engaging summer program. Up next…first day of school on Wednesday, August 19. 🌞💙💚

Sharing an update from our ELO crew…On Wednesday, as part of the ELO Program, PCCS students got to visit Cider Creek Collective, a farmstead in the hills of Albion focused on hosting creativity and pursuing ecologically safe practices. Artist and educator Jess Thompson gave us a tour of her homestead and led an intro sculpting class. We learned about the history of ceramics, kiln construction, and her family’s relationship with ceramics and pottery. We saw beautiful sculptures, ceramics, and their gigantic, wood-fired anagama style kiln, which reaches 2,400 F. We also got to meet their five big, friendly dogs who loved to eat the cores of our apples that we harvested from one of their seventy apple trees.

Thanks Cider Creek for a great day!

Our school was honored to be part of a team of California representatives attending a week-long Family Engagement Institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education last week. About two dozen representatives from schools and organizations across the state were part of the California Engagement Initiative team in Cambridge. The week was filled with SO many inspiring folks from across the country who shared their experiences and expertise focused on elevating family engagement in schools, something that is central to our school. Proud that our tiny little coastal school gets to be a part of these conversations and look forward to continuing to strengthen our school community. 💙💚🌊🌲
