Apologies for the typo! Congrats on the Master Causerano award.

Ms. McLelland can be seen at every region 8 event and world event. She works tirelessly before and after every event preparing the souvenir sales. The hours spent ordering, sorting, setting up, cleaning up, accepting special requests. Making sure everyone has what they need or want. This is a job that nobody notices because it is always done efficiently and always with a smile and contagious enthusiasm. Her years and years of service warrant this recognition.

Congratulations to our Humanitarian of the Year, Rick Braun of Vaughn’s Dojang WTSDA

Rick Braun started his TSD journey in 2007. He has always been aware of helping others. Mr. Braun has been very active in community service. Every Thanksgiving morning for the past 8 years or so, he has been preparing Thanksgiving dinner at the Bethesda Project, a facility for the unhoused of Philadelphia. Since he retired over a year ago, he volunteers at the Food Shelter in Phoenixville, PA. Not only does he volunteer at the Food Shelter he recruits others to help at the food shelter, including 3 of our Teenage Black Belts. Recently, he asked a new Pilates school a few doors from our studio if they would be interested in a free seminar on Self defense. He truly cares about our community and the importance of helping others.

Congratulations to Terrance Lee receiving the Student of the Year Hall of Fame award! Terrance is a student at Mimidis Karate.

Terrence is always looking for ways to give back to the studio and Association, including helping with setting up at tournaments and assisting as timekeeper/scorekeeper. He recently passed his Corner Judge certification in anticipation of volunteering in this role upon his successful completion of his Cho Dan test.

Terrence is both a cheerleader and a coach to the other students at Mimidis Karate. He arrives early to classes to review hyungs with fellow students. The comradery and family atmosphere at the studio has increased significantly since Terrence began his training. While his size might be an intimidation to others, this is quickly eliminated by his genuine, heartfelt smile and helpfulness. It is a joy to watch him progress in his Tang Soo Do journey. Terrence is an excellent choice for recognition as Student of the Year.

It is officially Hall of Fame season! Starting things off is the Instructor of the Year award. Adalina Astarita is a soon to be promoted Sah Dan from Paul Mimidis . Read below more about this amazing instructor of Region 8. Congrats!

Over the years Adelina has participated in studio demonstrations, conducted at regional black belt testing, judged regional and world championships.  Addy attends all regional black belt clinics.  Addy has also volunteered for our Regional Youth Black Belt Clinic.  She is currently an active member of the Leadership Class and acts as an editor for the regional and association newsletter.  She has completed her Sah Dan testing cycle and continues to train hard.   Adelina is a natural leader.  Her effort that she exhibits at every class is inspirational to those around her.  She is well respected by youth and adult students, parents and has the respect of the senior black belts in the studio.  She accepts the responsibility of being a leader and an instructor.  Adelina is encouraging, caring but also demanding.  She wants each and every student to pursue reaching their full potential both in and out of the studio. I understand every studio has someone they feel is deserving, but to know Addy is to know why she deserves this honor.
