🚑 ROAD TO CODE 2026: SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT 🚑

Some presentations come from textbooks.

Others come from experience.

And sometimes, they come from a moment that changes everything.

🫘 “Ricky Defeats the Bean”

Earlier this spring, Anthony’s world was rocked when his one-year-old grandson, Ricky, went into active respiratory failure.

What followed were painful waits, uncertainty, fear — and a firsthand realization of just how important a thorough patient history, strong assessment skills, and effective treatment are when caring for our smallest patients.

Anthony will share Ricky’s story and use that experience to explore the challenges EMS providers face when assessing and treating pediatric airway and respiratory emergencies.

Attendees will walk away with practical tips and suggestions to strengthen pediatric history gathering, respiratory assessment, airway management, and treatment.

And most importantly…

Trauma patients can spiral quickly — and sometimes, the things we do at the BLS level can make a bigger difference than we realize.

📚 The Lethal Diamond: A BLS Approach

Most EMS providers know the trauma “lethal triad.” But there’s another critical piece of the puzzle.

Jonathan will break down the Lethal Diamond and its four interconnected threats:

🧊 Hypothermia
🩸 Acidosis
⚠️ Coagulopathy
💎 Hypocalcemia

This one-hour session is designed primarily for EMTs and focuses on recognizing these problems early and understanding how timely, effective BLS interventions can help slow their progression and improve trauma care.

You’ll also get a look at ALS treatments—including calcium administration and blood product transfusion—and how BLS providers fit into the bigger picture of trauma resuscitation.
