ISU Molecular Research Core Facility

ISU Molecular Research Core Facility The MRCF provides scientists with the resources necessary for successful molecular research.

Routine activities in the MRCF include Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), Sanger DNA sequencing and microsatellite analysis (Genotyping), DNA fragment analysis, PCR, electrophoresis, gel imaging and analysis, as well as fluorescence-based cell classification and definition on a FACSMelody Flow Cytometer. The MRCF also maintains multiple advanced, digital imaging microscopy systems: Olympus Mutlipho

ton microscope, Olympus Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope, Zeiss Transmission Electron Microscope, and a Leica DM6B fluorescence microscope.

It's National Intern Day! Today we celebrate our current Career Path Intern, Daniel.

The MRCF has had just over 30 CPIs since the ISU program began 15 years ago!

Through the CPI program, ISU students connect classroom learning with meaningful professional experience. They develop career-ready skills, build professional relationships, and earn income while completing their degrees.

Earlier this week, I got to visit the ISU Molecular Research Core Facility—a lab that serves university, college and high school students across Idaho. Thanks to Jason Werth and Lisa McDougall for introducing me to my excellent student tour guides, Daniel, Siena, EJ, and Mason (not pictured). Than...

The Office for Research and the Molecular Research Core Facility (MRCF) is thrilled to announce the arrival of the new Illumina MiSeq i100 Plus DNA sequencer.

To celebrate, we will be hosting a Launch Party on May 6, 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm, in Lecture Center Room 17. Experts from Illumina will present the new system’s capabilities, discuss project design with faculty, and answer questions. A complimentary lunch will be provided, prior to the presentation, in the lobby of Gale Life Sciences from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Anyone interested in learning about Next-Generation DNA Sequencing is invited to attend.

The MRCF has provided researchers with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data since 2013 when the original MiSeq sequencer was purchased. The updated MiSeq i100 Plus replaces the previous model, introducing new and improved NGS capabilities.

Please join us on Wednesday, May 6th to learn more about the new MiSeq!

Thank you to the ISU Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability for certifying the MRCF as a Green Workspace! From identifying ways to reuse our plastics, purchasing biodegradable gloves, and even utilizing "reusable ice," we try our best to be sustainable scientists and fight for a greener future. We hope to keep up this work and inspire other research facilities to do the same.

🌖Bengals Shoot for the Moon!

ISU Geosciences alum Angela Garcia served as one of three science officers who supported astronauts from the flight control room for NASA’s Artemis II mission.

NASA’s first Artemis II science officers—Kelsey Young, Trevor Graff, and Angela Garcia—are pioneering a new era of mission operations by integrating advanced lunar science directly into Mission Control. Their work will shape how future Artemis crews observe, analyze, and deepen our understandi...
