Stepping into our future clients' shoes 👓✋️👂
This week, our OT students got hands on experience exploring how sensory changes impact everyday life as we age.
⚪️Students wore goggles that simulate conditions like macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma
⚪️Earplugs and noise canceling headphones to experience age-related hearing loss
⚪️Gloves to simulate decreased fine motor dexterity and tactile sensitivity
Understanding these challenges firsthand allows our future therapists to design smarter, more empathetic intervention strategies 💡

Driven to make a difference! 🚗💨
Our students recently participated in a Carfit event as part of their Environmental Management coursework. Driving is a key IADL that allows individuals to stay connected to their communities. Through Carfit pur students applied environmental adaptation principles to evaluate driver-to-vehicle fit, helping drivers stay safe, comfortable, and independent behind the wheel.

Games with a clinical twist ✨️
Yesterday our MOT students from both the Meridian and Pocatello cohorts came together for the annual Activity Analysis Carnival.
They were able to play games to break down the required motor, sensory, and cognitive skills...then play them a second time with adaptive modifications to modify for different physical or cognitive needs. 🧠💪
We love building connections across cohorts, problem-solving, and finding creative solutions so every individual can participate 😀

Over the weekend, Dr. Canavan officially crossed the finish line on President Wagner's 125 mile challenge! 🎉

Through a mix of dedicated hikes, bird-watching strolls, she knocked out the entire 125 miles in just 23 days.

Just like clients in occupational therapy, Dr. Canavan approached this goal with intention:
🎯 Setting a clear target
🐕 Enlisting support from her family and her dog, Cookie
👀 Focusing on the "Just Right Challenge" - an essential OT concept of finding a meaningful goal that pushes growth without causing frustration.

After learning about evidence-informed practice during the spring semester, our MOT students posed clinical questions and prepared Critically Appraised Topic (CAT 😺) poster presentations to share what they've learned from research literature with our campus community 🧠🩺
Watching our 1st year cohort step into evidence-based practice with so much confidence is inspiring. Drop a 👏 in the commentals to congratulate them on all their hard work!
