Over the weekend, Dr. Canavan officially crossed the finish line on President Wagner's 125 mile challenge! πŸŽ‰

Through a mix of dedicated hikes, bird-watching strolls, she knocked out the entire 125 miles in just 23 days.

Just like clients in occupational therapy, Dr. Canavan approached this goal with intention:
🎯 Setting a clear target
πŸ• Enlisting support from her family and her dog, Cookie
πŸ‘€ Focusing on the "Just Right Challenge" - an essential OT concept of finding a meaningful goal that pushes growth without causing frustration.

What "Just Right Challenge" are you taking on this week? Let us know in the comments

After learning about evidence-informed practice during the spring semester, our MOT students posed clinical questions and prepared Critically Appraised Topic (CAT 😺) poster presentations to share what they've learned from research literature with our campus community 🧠🩺
Watching our 1st year cohort step into evidence-based practice with so much confidence is inspiring. Drop a πŸ‘ in the commentals to congratulate them on all their hard work!

Today our OT students had a fantastic on-site session practicing essential patient transfer techniques. They had the ultimate support system learning from Gateway's Director of Rehab, Gina, right alongside one of our own Level II fieldwork students, Owen who helped teach and mentor!
Thank you Gateway and team for providing the perfect environment for our students to grow!

Our students spent Friday diving headfirst into the art and science of custom orthotic fabrication AKA splitting. Watch them master the precision it takes to heat, cut, and mold low-temperature thermoplastic is always the highlight of the semester.
Future occupational therapists in the making! Hands on labs like this are where textbook theory turns into real world patient care πŸ’ΌπŸ’ͺ

We love seeing our fieldwork educators shine! The ISU MOT program is so fortunate to have Bailey mentoring our Level II Fiedlwork students. She's an exceptional therapist, a phenomenal educator, and a well deserved past recipient of our 2022 Fieldwork Educator of the Year award! Congratulations Bailey! πŸ‘

Spotlight on Bailey! πŸ‘ She's an Occupational Therapist in our Pediatric Therapies Department and is making an incredible impact for children and families in our community. She provides specialized care for kiddos experiencing bowel and bladder dysfunctionβ€” a unique and much-needed service that is not widely available in our region.

Through her expertise, compassion, and innovative approach, Bailey helps children gain confidence and improve continence and bladder/bowel control. Using tools like EMG biofeedback technology paired with interactive games, she makes therapy engaging while helping kids better understand and strengthen how their bodies work.

Bailey continues to grow this important program each year, helping more patients and families find support and success. She has also completed the requirements to become certified as a Pediatric Pelvic Floor Specialist and is hoping for acceptance later this year.

If your child can benefit from Pediatric Occupational, Speech or Physical Therapists can help your child, give us a call at 208-529-7982.
