Dear PHS-HHS Class of ’64,

There have been a few inquiries to see if there would be a 60th reunion. While we do not have a formal reunion committee, Lea Wood and others thought it might be fun to have an informal picnic gathering to celebrate.

We would appreciate it if you could reply with either a YES or NO that you can attend. It will help us with further planning to know about how many to plan for. Also, send your money along with your reply if you can attend. Let others know.

So, we are looking at Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Lower Ross Park Pavilion nearest the pool. We will meet at NOON and enjoy the afternoon visiting. Bring your stories of work, family, retirement, travel, etc. We don’t have a formal program, just a sharing of our experiences.

Depending on attendance, we can either cater a meal, or we can provide the main course (chicken?) and go for potluck and BYOB. We think we can do this for $20 per person.

Please indicate whether you think you could attend, especially those of you from out-of-town. Lea will collect the funds and determine what we can afford for the luncheon.

A new study by researchers at Princeton and New York University found that people over 65 were most likely to share fake news on social media.

The PHS 50+ Reunion Committee will be having a gathering at the Clarion Inn. All PHS classes are invited and we are encouraging classmates from '64 to attend. Several have already sent in their RSVP's. Hope to see you there!

Raymond and Cordy Madrid of Pocatello celebrated 50 years of marriage on July 7 at the Upper Ross Park Pavilion with family and friends.
Raymond served our country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967 and was then honorably discharged. He returned home where he was later engaged to Cordy Sanchez.

Raymond Madrid married Cordy Sanchez, both of Pocatello, on July 6, 1968, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They have lived their married life in Pocatello for the last 50 years.
Raymond and Cordy have two children: Raymond (Lydia) Madrid and Monica Madrid. They have six grandchildren: Mariah (fiance Zach), Gabby, Eva, Mila, Lyric and Mason.

Raymond retired from JR Simplot in 2008 after 38 years. Cordy retired from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 in 2010 after 30 years. They enjoy family vacations, camping, fishing and an occasional trip to casinos. Most of all they enjoy spending time and holidays with family and friends. They especially enjoy time with their grandchildren, enjoying all their sports activities and accomplishments.

Poky High classmates: Pocatello High School alumni have a T-shirt for sale that can be obtained by letting me know (Pete) or Don Babcock, or at Pocatello High School. It sells for $10 and comes in various sizes. We see a lot of them at Poky games and other events. We encourage to purchase one.

Rick and Mary Beth Parkin celebrate 50th anniversary

On Saturday, Aug. 5, Rick and Mary Beth Parkin are celebrating 50 years of marriage.

They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They attended Idaho State University.

Rick worked for the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District as a teacher, coach and administrator. Mary Beth worked at Bannock Memorial Hospital until the birth of twins. When the kids began school she went to work for Bill Green at State Farm Insurance.

They are blessed with five children, Mark (Camille) Parkin, Mike (Rhonda) Parkin, Tom (Isabel) Parkin, Tori (Heather) Parkin and Kate (Tony) Miller. They have 21 grandchildren.

They are currently working in the Idaho Pocatello Mission Office and really love being with the missionaries. They also serve as Ordinance Workers in the Idaho Falls Temple where they experience much love and satisfaction.

They are having a family outing celebrating 50 years together with our wonderful family.

We rode the "Trail of the Hiawatha" near Wallace, Idaho this past August. It is quite the ride - 15 miles of old rail bed with a 2% downgrade with sheer mountain beauty and fun. Typical of North Idaho. You must give it a try.

Pocatello High School and Highland High School class of 1964 have held combined reunions since the first one in 1974. The fall of 1963 was the first year for the then new Highland High on the east bench of Pocatello. Students attended the first two years at PHS and then new boundaries were set and about 1/3 of all high school students began their scholastic endeavors at Highland.
