We recognize that you and your learners get frustrated during preferential schedule change time. But, the reality is as our population continues to increase....we haven't gotten new spaces or teachers to put students. Priority MUST be given to incoming students (yep we are getting more), students with holes in their schedule, and seniors for grad requirements. In addition, we handle several significant crisis issues daily, and if it is the difference between keeping a student alive, safe, and in school and a preference change the schedule change simply loses priority. Next week we will be doing ESSENTIAL schedule changes only ie correcting misplacements (don't have pre reqs), filling holes in schedules, and making sure seniors have grad requirements. As department chair, I apologize if this comes across as uncaring about your student. We do NOT wish them to be unhappy, but we simply don't feel it is in the best interest of learners nor teachers to overload classes. We need to keep the teachers sane too so they can give their best selves. Mrs. Baker

As the school year winds down, we say Happy Retirement to our own, Roger. We can´t begin to thank you enough for your kindness and gentle encouragement, you will be missed. We would also like to wish Mackenzie, one of our CCAs well as she graduated with her Masterś Degree and will be leaving us for the Boise valley. And now, for a Mrs. Baker sappy moment. When I first came to Highland I was hired strictly as a freshmen counselor. I quickly fell in love with those hard headed little hooligans and was fairly proud to claim them. Even as the next year the alphabet split, I take a fierce pride in their accomplishments. But this year, their senior year, I am blown away by the truly decent humans they have grown into. While they may be making their mamas' pull out their hair at home, the things they are doing at school are amazing. For example, the implementation of nice weeks and the way the senior class got behind the recent food drive...they make me so proud. And, I want to thank them and their parents for letting me be a small part of their childhood. They will do good things.
