Woohoo, it's FINALLY the last day of school and we're going out with a bang - or should I say, a box of donuts 🍩! Huge thanks to “Grandma Mary” (Mrs. Evans' mom), for shelling out cash for gazillion treats.

First up, we honored our fabulous retiring staff and faculty, handed out awards, and then it was time to get our run on with the Teacher Fun Run.

After stuffing our faces with grilled hamburgers, we had second breakfast - I mean, more treats and recess.

I'm going to miss these 4th graders. This school year has been fun watching them grow and learn!

If I've learned nothing else in 28 years as a teacher, it's important to be flexible! When our originally planned field trip for today fell off the rails, it was time for some quick thinking and a Plan B.

A huge shout-out to Lisa at the Hanson Nature Center for hosting our 4th graders on short notice! We enjoyed a lesson about animals native to Iowa that are either extinct or extirpated. We also got to go on a fun scavenger hunt inside the nature center, where we saw live turtles, frogs, and even tadpoles.

After lunch outside, we burned off some energy by hitting the trails right outside the door. We were especially fascinated by the swans and all the rocks! Although the day wasn’t what we had originally thought it would be, we ended up having a blast and learning lots of new things!

Our visit to Dutchland Dairy in Rolfe was today! We saw some calves that were just born and learned many interesting facts about dairy cows.

Did you know:

🐄Cows eat about 100 pounds of food per day.

🐄Cows wear FitBit-like collars tracking eating and resting habits and alerting farmers to sickness.
