Do we need iron in menopause?
Maybe...and maybe not
Test?
Yes, and then also know if you have blood deficiency...no, there isn't a lab test for that
Blood deficiency is not anemia, it is about the quality of the substance, and replacing iron isn't the full solution
Also, if your blood isn't sufficient, it won't be able to hold nutrients, or consciousness (chinese medicine says blood is the vehicle for the shen)
So, blood quality is key!
We nourish blood many ways, some work easier than other depending on your personal constitution (example, my body needed alchemy and lots of moxa rather than herbs)
You can explore
Liver
Mineral rich herbs
Seaweeds
Chinese formulas...but be careful, if you have dampness, not all blood nourishing formulas will suit you
Just taking iron could be problematic
Sometimes we aren't holding nutrients in the blood, so, in that scenario, the iron will keep "dropping" into the tissue compartment, where it can increase inflammation, feed infections and cause stress....this is where a beneficial nutrient becomes a problem
If you tone blood, the compartment will get restored and from there iron can work and may not even be needed.
It is always a case by case
Some will need iron with blood nourishing
Some will need blood nourishing alone
This is your reminder, you aren't a robot and your body is unique and working from the true patterns of you will always be the best way.
