What a great day to be in the garden!
Today at Explore Learning/ Garden Club students were given the opportunity to show off their strength and team building skills by lifting compost bags into the circle raised beds to help 5th graders prepare for their JMG lesson where they will be designing and planting a garden for the community to enjoy over the summer.
Other activities included painting rocks for the Kindness Rocks! Garden, w**ding and watering the seedlings that are waiting to be planted.
As we approach the end of the school year be on the look out for the Garden Care sign up to help us tend to the garden over the summer, and join us for the Summer Community Gardening Days where families have the opportunity to gather, meet and enjoy all that the ZLE Garden has to bring!
Happy Mother's Day Weekend!

With the rain fall this morning and uncertainty if we would be able to get outside, it was quite an adventurous day exploring the garden!
Explore Learning took an unusual turn today with a hare-raising situation. Some students found and mourned the life of a bunny who is no longer with us. Many of the students held a "burial" of sorts as we learned about the different predators that may peruse the garden.
One of the leading culprits and top predators nearest the school are Ospreys nesting in the Zachary Playfield lights.
Students thought and considered other predators that may come around at night, such as a fox.
Students learned about rabbit habitats and found a rabbit hole in the Rhubarb garden.
In previous years they have been found in some of the raised beds.
Students also became dirt-ectives in search for creepy crawlies such as: Centipedes, Millipedes, Worms, Rolly Polly bugs, and more!
Ask your students if they attended the garden today and what they took away from the experience.

What a fun day it was in the Garden!
Today we got to be an artist drawing pictures of flowers and creating our own take home bags.
We harvested and thought about what to make with the delicious goodies that were picked.
We got to be taste testers trying green onions, mint, and strawberries.
Some curious minds wanted to know if a fruit (tomato) was good (ripe) when there was a little bit of green.
We learned that the inside of the tomato (fruit) looked ripe (red inside), while the skin had not fully changed.
Questions from the day:
What happens if you pick a green (un-ripe) tomato and leave it on the counter?
Does it stay green?
Or will it turn red and ripen?
- If you are a lucky parent who has the opportunity to find out, we would like to know:
How long did it take for the tomato to ripen? What were the environmental conditions?
If you had more than one, did they ripen at the same time or different times?
Comment of the day:
I usually pick tomatoes from my friend's garden, but now I am going to pick tomatoes in this garden. - kindergartener
