Today’s PDN TIP is a repost from our Executive Director Rob Pincus: UP IS NOT A SAFE DIRECTION.

Stop pretending that pointing guns up in the air is “safe” just because it is easier or “We’ve always done it that way.” If the gun you’re carrying fires anything heavier than #5 shot, firing a round into the air endangers others.

Obviously, there are times when down isn’t a safe direction either… which is why the rule we use is:

“Keep the weapon pointed in a generally safe direction, whenever possible.”
