The menu this Saturday. 🌻

As part of the upcoming Detroit PBS documentary Detroit: City of Chefs III, Chef Heather Moore and her students from Schoolcraft College spent time harvesting berries, herbs, flowers, and other ingredients from Gateway Farm's Food Forest before heading back to the kitchen to create this brunch menu.

Guests will begin the morning with yoga and a sound bath, followed by a meal that celebrates the relationship between chef and farm, highlighting ingredients grown just steps from where they'll be served.

For us, that's what makes this event so meaningful. It's a chance to share the diversity of crops growing here, the people who steward them, and the creativity that happens when farmers and chefs work together.

We're honored to be featured in Detroit: City of Chefs III and excited to help tell the story of how local food connects land, community, and the table.

A few donor spots may still be available. If you'd like to support the film and join us for this special experience, email [email protected]

A little preview of something we're excited about 🌻

This season, the crew from Bending River Films has been spending time at Gateway Farm filming for the upcoming Detroit PBS documentary Detroit: City of Chefs III, capturing the work, people, and practices that make this place what it is.

We're honored to be part of a story that highlights the connection between Michigan farmers and chefs, and the relationships that bring local food from the land to the table.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes glimpses and updates as filming continues.

White currants are in!

The crew spent part of the morning picking under Ghost cat's careful supervision. πŸˆβ€β¬›

If you've never had them before, they're sweet, tart, and a little softer in flavor than red currants. They're great for tossing into salads, baking, making jam, muddling into summer drinks, or just eating straight out of the container on the drive home.

We've got heaps of them in the farmstand this weekend while the harvest lasts. 🌻

Nothing like a good before & after. 🌻

Thanks to a stretch of mild weather and some much-needed rain, we're taking advantage and planting later into the season than usual.

Last weekend, our incredible volunteers helped us plant an entire field with cut flowers, sunflowers, heritage popcorn, and tromboncino squash.

It’s one of those moments that’s easy to miss when you see the harvest months later. Every flower, every squash, every sunflower starts with people showing up, getting their hands dirty, and helping bring another field to life.

Biggest thank you to everyone who joined us!

Interested in future volunteer opportunities? Our next volunteer day is July 18th and we're planning a pop-up orchard day during the week of July 6th.

The Garden Juju Collective Nursery has arrived at the Gateway Farm Stand. 🌱

Garden Juju Collective, the directors of Gateway Farm, have been busy growing a bumper crop of edible and native plants for Southeastern Michigan gardens, homesteads, and landscapes.

You’ll find organically grown trees, shrubs, perennials, and medicinal plants selected for food, habitat, beauty, and resilience.

Whether you’re planting a food forest, supporting pollinators, or looking for something unique, stop by and explore the nursery display.

Quantities are limited, and many varieties won’t last long.

Planting food and medicine is one of the simplest ways to invest in a more abundant future. 🌻
