They say the first step to recovery from a problem is to recognize that there is a problem - Jiu jitsu is no exception. The first step to deciding where to allocate your training resources next is a thorough and accurate inventory of your current skill set. Analyzing where you win and where you lose, what comes easily and what feels difficult. Where there are problems - that’s where you start doing the bulk of your work. It’s easy to maintain your other established skills with a reduced workload while focusing on the areas that need more attention. Make sure that thorough going self analysis is a fairly regular part of your training. The better you know yourself, the better you can allocate time and effort where it’s needed most

The quote “Anger is a short madness” by the Roman poet Horace:
🔥 Meaning & Insight:
Anger hijacks reason:
Like madness, it clouds judgment, overrides logic, and leads to actions we later regret.
It’s temporary — but destructive: Though brief, uncontrolled anger can cause lasting damage — to relationships, reputations, even lives.
Self-mastery over impulse:
The quote is a stoic reminder to pause, breathe, and not let momentary fury dictate long-term consequences.

That Bantu proverb —
“No man can paddle two canoes at the same time” —
offers a simple yet profound truth:
⸻
🛶 Meaning & Insight:
• Divided focus leads to failure: You can’t fully commit to two opposing directions or responsibilities. Straddling both will sink you.
• Life demands presence: Whether it’s relationships, purpose, or decisions — you must choose where your energy flows.
• It’s a call for alignment: Paddle one canoe with both hands — with intention, clarity, and heart — or you risk drifting in circles.

Awareness: The Perils and Opportunities of Reality.
7 Key Themes and Insights:
De Mello's book is a transformative spiritual guide that encourages readers to awaken from their conditioned existence and embrace true freedom through self-observation and detachment.
1. Wake up to Reality 💤
De Mello asserts that most people live in a state of "sleep", governed by societal conditioning and unconscious habits.
True awareness involves observing oneself and the world without judgement,
leading to genuine understanding and freedom.
2. Let Go of Attachments 📎
Attachments to people, possessions, and beliefs are seen as the root of suffering. By releasing these dependencies, individuals can experience unconditional happiness and inner peace.
3. Happiness Is Your Natural State 😃
Happiness doesn't come from external achievements or possessions but from within.
De Mello emphasizes that by shedding illusions and embracing the present moment, one can rediscover innate joy.
4. Observe Without Judgement 👀
Self-awareness requires observing thoughts and emotions without trying to change them.
This nonjudgemental observation leads to deeper understanding and transformation.
5. Transcend the Ego 🤯
Identifying with roles, labels, and personal narratives limits true self-understanding.
De Mello encourages readers to look beyond the ego to discover their authentic selves.
6. Redefine Love 💚
True love is free from dependency and possessiveness.
De Mello distinguishes between genuine affection and attachment-based relationships, advocating for love rooted in freedom and awareness.
7. Embrace Change Through Understanding 🙌
Lasting change comes not from force but from understanding.
By becoming aware of one's conditioning and motivations, transformation occurs naturally.
Awareness is not just a book but a call to action-a challenge to examine one's life deeply and honestly.
Embark on the journey of self-discovery.
For those willing to confront uncomfortable truths and let go of ingrained patterns, this book offers profound insights into living a more conscious and fulfilling life.

🧩 “One becomes two” —
What does it mean in Thus Spoke Zarathustra?
“one becomes two”
reflects a split in consciousness — where the self steps outside itself and observes, reflects, transforms.
It’s part of the overcoming of the self:
The ego is confronted, transcended, and reintegrated.
This “doubling” leads to a fuller, more self-aware being — the kind who can evolve into the Übermensch (Overman), Nietzsche’s ideal of human potential.
It echoes this movement:
Innocence → Division → Integration → Self-Mastery

The Giving Tree 🌳by: Shel Silverstein
One that speaks to the soul beneath the surface.
It tells the story of a lifelong relationship between a boy and a tree, capturing deep themes of life, love, sacrifice, and the passage of time.
Metaphor: The Tree as the Eternal Giver, the Boy as the Evolving Self.
🌳The Tree = Unconditional Source
The parent, the lover, the earth, the divine feminine - a presence that asks for nothing and gives everything.
She represents wholeness, stability, and unwavering love. 💚
👦The Boy = The Seeking Ego
He begins as pure joy - playful, present, and connected.
But as time passes, desire creeps in.
He wants money, status, escape.
His needs become more material, more distant from the sacred simplicity of his youth.
🌿Life Stages as Metaphor:
1. Innocence (Childhood): The boy climbs, plays, laughs - in harmony with nature. He asks for nothing because he has everything.
2. Desire (Adolescence-Adulthood): He begins to want. Apples for wealth. Branches for shelter. A trunk for escape. Each time, the tree gives herself away piece by piece-without resistance.
➡️This mirrors how we consume love, time, and resources without always realizing what we take.
3. Emptiness (Midlife-Old Age): He has traveled, achieved, aged - but lost the joy he once had. When he returns, broken and tired, he no longer seeks to have - only to be.
➡️He sits on the stump. Nothing is left.... except presence.
☯️
🐦⬛The Deeper Symbolism:
The Tree is not just a giver. She is Being itself.
She watches the boy age, change, leave, and return -
yet never turns him away.
She is Time, Patience, and the Sacred Feminine Archetype -nurturing even in depletion.
The Boy is all of us.
Wandering through stages of wanting, until finally we return to stillness- and realize the stump we once overlooked is exactly what we needed.
💫Closing Reflection:
"He thought he needed apples and houses and boats...
But what he truly longed for was the stump
beneath the stars."
The boy didn't just come home to the tree- He came home to himself.

Every minute someone leaves this world behind.
Age has nothing to do with it.
We are all in this line without realizing it.
We never know how many people are before us.
We cannot move to the back of the line.
We cannot step out of the line.
We cannot avoid the line.
So while we wait in line:
Make moments count.
Make a difference.
Make the call.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make yourself a priority.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make waves.
Make sure to have no regrets.
Make sure you are ready.
This world will often leave you wishing you had just 5 more minutes. Feel free to share this powerful reminder on perspective and wake up each day realizing it is a gift and to make the most of it!
