๐ While away on vacation I wanted to play Mahjong, but all we had was a deck of cards. So, I decided to try and figure out how to create a simplified version with playing cards.
๐ฏ I have only tried this with two players. So, I am not sure how it will work with 3-4 players. I also wanted to just play hand for hand and not keep points. So, I didnโt worry about assigning cards for flowers, wind or dragons. If that is something you are interested in you could have A, K, Q & J be dragons and/or winds.
๐๏ธ I was just happy to work with the same amount of tiles/cards to try and create Mahjong with my pongs & chows.
โฆ๏ธKONG - as for Kong. If you have 3 of the same cards (for instance: ๐, ๐, ๐) in your hand you do NOT need to show it. If you pull from the deck a 4th - OR - a player discards the 4th card say โKONGโ and immediately show your KONG. Again for the example in the photo the card would be a 10. Once you place your Kong down for everyone to see you then pick up an extra card from the pile. And then discard a card. The turn then goes to the next player.
๐ If for instance I want to use one of these 10โs in a chow instead (10, 9, ๐ of course I can do this. I would just keep my 3 - 10โs as a pong and NOT call KONG.
๐๏ธ Pong - is a set of three identical cards not the same suit. (๐, ๐, ๐)
๐๏ธ Chow - is three consecutive numerical cards belonging to the same suit. (5๏ธโฃ, 6๏ธโฃ, 7๏ธโฃ all โค๏ธโs)
What do you think of this version?
Have you tried playing with cards too?
