The Balancing Act
• Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project aims to balance protecting public health from mosquito borne diseases such as West Nile virus (WNv) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), and at the same time protect nature, including pollinators.
• All the products used by Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project have been reviewed by the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program and applied according to the SRB (State Reclamation Board) Bee Policy and applied according to the pesticide label to reduce the effect on non-target species.
• The method of using Ultra Low Volume spraying (.74 ounces/acre) and tiny droplet size and spraying at night when bees are in their hives are important aspects of this balanced approach and the Project’s Integrated Pest Management Plan.

1. While aerial larviciding over large swamps continues with the product Bti, a naturally occurring bacillus bacteria, that targets only mosquitoes and to a lesser extent, black flies, the important work of adding the same product into catch-basins begins!
2. You may see the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project’s white trucks pull over and drop something into the catch-basins and wonder what they are doing. So, I wanted you to know! (See photo)
3. By the way, we could use one more person for this seasonal full-time work. Applicant needs to be at least 18 years and have a driver’s license. It pays $16.50 per hour. If interested please call the office at 781-585-5450
4. This work continues all summer.
