LMU Alert: Westchester - there is a power outage on campus. Stay out of elevators. Use flashlights, never candles. Report any downed power lines or elevator entrapments to Public Safety at 310-338-2893 or via the Rave Guardian mobile app. To avoid a power surge when power is restored, check devices or appliances that may have been on prior to the outage to ensure they have been turned off or unplugged. At this time, the cause and anticipated length of the outage is not known. Facilities Management is working with LADWP to obtain updates, which will be shared with you as they become available. Additional information will be sent shortly with details on campus operations that are impacted by the power outage.

LMU Alert: There was a large magnitude earthquake, which caused major shaking at the Westchester and Playa Vista Campuses. Beware of aftershocks, falling debris, and downed power lines. Keep phone lines open for emergencies; send text messages to check in with family and friends.

Assess the area, and evacuate only if necessary due to significant structural damage or a subsequent emergency (e.g. fire, gas leak/gas odor, major structural damage, severe leak, chemical spill, etc) as falling debris caused by aftershocks can be incredibly dangerous. If evacuating, take the stairs -- do not use the elevator. Should you become trapped in a building after an earthquake, DO NOT PANIC. Call 9-1-1 and wave something out the window or tap on the wall at regular intervals to alert rescue crews of your location. If phone lines are jammed, text messages will get through easier. Be prepared for aftershocks.

Public Safety and Facilities Management are evaluating infrastructure for damage. Report any major damage, gas odor, or chemical spills to Public Safety using the Rave Guardian app. Call 911 for life threatening emergencies.

You will receive an updated LMU Alert as more information is available. Check earthquake tips on the Rave Guardian app or at www.lmu.edu/emergency

Reminder: Keep phone lines open for emergencies, and text instead of call. Use social media for updates (including LMU Campus Safety Twitter and Facebook).
