Creeping, Crawling, Fluttering… Bugs Are Everywhere!

From hot and humid rainforests to snowy mountain ranges and just about everywhere in between, there’s an estimated 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000) bugs on Earth. These creepy crawlies actually make up to 80 percent of the species on our planet! In fact, these fascinating creatures have been around for roughly 350 million years. But us humans? We’ve only been around for 300,000 years.

From pollinate our crops, helping monitor water quality, producing materials humans use like silk and honey, to even being cooked up as nutritious snacks, bugs can do it all! Ant, beetle, stick bug or butterfly, every bug has its own unique traits and habits.

Lettuce Compost Together! Composting helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributes to healthier soil for our gardens and farms, and is a great way to get the family together to repurpose food waste to help our planet!

Compost is made by combining types of waste — like food scraps, leaves and wood chips — and exposing them to air and water to allow them to decompose. After this new material is dark in color, without any remnants of food or waste leftover, your compost is ready to add to soil.
