James “Jim” Proskocil, 72, of Plattsburg, MO, passed away September 12, 2021 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Jim was born July 29, 1949 to James and Evelyn (Kamarad) Proskocil in Sergent, Nebraska.
On November 29, 1969, Jim was united in marriage to Pat John of Ord, Nebraska. To this union they had three children. Timothy, Randy, and Trisha.
Jim attended the University of Nebraska and the University of Missouri.
After obtaining his Master’s Degree, Jim worked for the Plant Pathology Department of the University of Missouri. He ran the Plant Diagnostic lab.
In 1976, Jim was hired by the University of Missouri Extension to work the 4-H and Youth Programs in NW Missouri, headquartered in Plattsburg, MO. Jim served on many committees, but he was most excited about serving on the National Forestry Committee, National ATV Safety Committee sponsored by Honda, and National Natural Resource Curriculum Development Committee presenting programs to Russia and Brazil.
In 1995, Jim started ProLawn and Pest Control LLC and continued to help operate until his passing.
Jim’s passion was motorcycles and classic cars. He also loved concerts.
Jim was preceded in death by his parent’s Jim and Evelyn, and his sister Erma Jean.
Jim is survived by wife Pat, sons Timothy of Plattsburg, Randy (Julie) of Hallsville, MO & Trisha of the home. He is survived by 8 grandchildren Brandon Stimelsky, Rachel Noland, Tyler Noland, Petrina McWilliams, Elijah Proskocil, Preston Proskocil, Hayden Proskocil, and Kinsley Proskocil, 3 great grandchildren, Jasper, Daxton, and Sophia. His brother Don of Ord, Nebraska, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We will be having a Celebration of Life gathering at the Tinnen Town Hall Event Center at 100 E. Maple in Plattsburg on Saturday, September 18, from 2-5pm. This will be an informal event for those who would like to attend.
UPDATE: we will have a gathering in Ord, Nebraska later this fall. Time and location will be determined and announced at a later date.

A dream to create a building and livestock pavilion for the Clinton County Junior Livestock and Home Economics Show began with the purchase of the current property in June, 1963. Wilbur Shoemaker, Harold Hamilton, and Harlan Hackett led the efforts of the association which was created to encourage greater achievement of 4-H and FFA youth with a permanent facility to exhibit projects and further the public interest in the work of young people.

The history of the Clinton County Youth Building and Livestock Pavilion demonstrates the determination of community leaders investing time, energy and resources for the benefit of youth and the future of a county. A memorial fund for the building to honor the outstanding Clinton County 4-H member, Quinten Huss, was created after his accidental death in September 1963 and most likely added momentum to the building and pavilion plans. In reviewing the records and news releases, there were several early leaders who played prominent roles in making the current facilities a reality. This is a partial listing of those individuals: Jim Steele, Donald Kellam, Andrew Adam, Ed McPhee, Jim Proskocil, Mrs. E.C Harris, John Hart, Rea Norton, Don Haun, Mrs. Wesley Norton, Wayne Shaver, Richard Mallen, Nancy Bowman, Kenton Schwarz. Additional names and stories are welcomed to celebrate the history of the Clinton County Youth Building.

The building is handicap accessible and the kitchen is semi-professional. Call the MU Extension office for rental. Perfect for family reunions, youth activities, funeral dinners, weddings, anniversary or any other occasion. Tables and chairs are provided for your use. An outdoor covered pavilion is available.
