🚫It no longer felt right to pretend to hold koalas when I learned this is not really a practice anymore.

When we learn something new, we can make small changes that help us teach with more care and intention. And sometimes, those changes turn out to be just as fun as the original plan. ❤️

On the 3rd day of kindergarten…these kids received their class passports. 🥳

🌍We’ll use these passports every week during our social studies lesson, collecting a new “stamp” for each country we explore.

To kick off a new year of Passport Adventures, I sent home a flyer with 12 destinations for my students to choose from.

And while there were lots of great choices, there was a clear winner for our very first destination. 👀✈️

This was a lesson my students talked about ALL YEAR LONG:

It was the day they arrived at school and discovered it was the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

I knew they wouldn’t remember just seeing a picture of it in a book. We needed to learn about Machu Picchu in an interactive way.

Learning doesn’t always take place in a classroom.

Sometimes it happens while pretending to hike all over campus…and interrupting other classrooms.

Sometimes learning is using your imagination to pretend you’re somewhere faraway.

And sometimes, this is exactly the kind of learning kids need.
