My students’ imaginary flight to China requires full TSA clearance.

My husband and our school security guard step into their roles as TSA agents, carefully checking backpacks and water bottles to make sure everyone is “traveling safely.”

The seriousness on their faces is unmatched. 🤣

While learning about Galápagos sea lions, my students pretended to quietly photograph them.

We learned that wild animals need space. Instead of pretending to touch or disturb the sea lions, my students used their imaginary cameras (on silent mode), stayed quiet, and observed from a respectful distance.

They were learning about wildlife and practicing how to respect it, all through imagination. 🌎💙

This can be done for any animal lesson! 📸

When your classroom becomes a boat to the Galápagos… 🌊🐢

My students pretended to fasten their life jackets, climbed aboard our “boat,” and used their imaginary binoculars to search for wildlife. 🔭🌎

The best part? They were using their imaginations while learning real facts about the Galápagos Islands.

Before you even board your flight, there are a few important steps!

You can fly to the islands from Quito or Guayaquil, where your bags go through a special biosecurity inspection to help protect the islands from invasive species.

You’ll also need your $20 Transit Control Card.

Once you arrive in Baltra, international visitors over 12 pay the $200 Galápagos National Park entrance fee.

Then it’s a bus from the airport to the Itabaca Channel, followed by a boat transfer to Santa Cruz.

I taught my students this process, too, because learning about a place isn’t just about seeing its animals.

It’s about understanding how we can responsibly visit and help protect these incredible ecosystems. 🌎💙

Moments like these are ones I love: where students are eagerly learning but don’t even realize it.

Kids are naturally curious and should be allowed to use their imaginations more frequently. It’s how I’ve gotten my students to learn about 40+ countries during the school year.

The sooner they learn about the world, the longer they can understand and care for it.

It’s up to us, adults, to help them learn.
