🤔🤔Are you Proactive or Reactive? Does it matter?

Before you answer the second part of the question (Does it matter?) let’s unpack the reasons why some people are proactive and some are reactive.


What does it mean to have a proactive approach to everything? I’m not trying to give you an English lesson but the word proactive has the prefix (pro) - which means “before”. It’s safe to say that a proactive person handles things before they happen, they plan ahead, and they foresee possibilities and act before they occur, they work on solutions to try to avoid them.


What does it mean to have a reactive approach to everything? Taking the reactive approach to events, means that, the reactive person would rather wait to see what needs to be done and then collaborates. This type of approach is one of little if no initiative and strategic thinking; it’s a go with the flow kind of attitude towards situations.


DOES IT MATTER?

Well of course it does, it matters in different ways to each individual depending on how they choose to live their lives. Both reactive and proactive approaches are needed for there to be balance in the universe. An example would be; if every individual was proactive, we would have a world that could not account for the discovery of many things that require us to be daring. We would be overthinking everything, not taking action on anything.


Then the reactive individuals would also not get anything done, waiting to see what decisions are going to be made so they can then do what they do best. REACT, meaning they will bring their input once things have gone whichever way they have.


I want to share what my thoughts are on these two. To me it’s not a matter of being Proactive “or” Reactive. Emphasis on the “or”, both of these are REACTIONS and they are needed. It’s important to have the skills necessary to adapt to the different circumstances that come along. There are moments in life that we have to be proactive, meaning we need to be able to act in a way that we can prevent situations from occurring. We also need to develop the ability to process events that take us by surprise and have the ability to function, this would be a reactive response to it.


Therefore, take some time to meditate on your own skills in regards to how you react to life circumstances. Your position on this matter will show you, why you choose to make decisions the way you do, or the lack thereof. Life is about balance. It’s about less judgement and increasing awareness. It’s about the desire to develop the skills to have a good balance in life (being proactive) but also, the ability to love in hard situations (being reactive).

************* Appreciation ***************

“Recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.”- oxford dictionary definition

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about, since it has been a while since I posted anything to our community page. Then the word appreciation came to mind. Appreciation is key to the development of our purpose. Appreciation provokes a feeling, a desire to be better, to do the best you can. Even the most accomplished individuals yearn to be appreciated although it might be a silent desire.

Meditating on the act of appreciation I realized that, one of the things that motivated me to resign to my last employment was actually the fact that I felt underappreciated. It is important for us to realize that appreciation doesn’t have to come from a manager alone, although it is the goal for most employees, you can express appreciation towards a co-worker and it is equally valuable.

A genuine ability to show appreciation also changes attitudes, brings positivism and optimism. Appreciating your significant other, your children, your co-workers, your supervisor and your friends will change the way these relationships form and will bring value to you as a person and a professional.
We all want to make a difference, so take some time and appreciate someone and that will motivate the others to do the same. Change the wrong with a write. Appreciate someone today.

The way we think is what truly leads the way we live

There are so many things that influence our thoughts. Things like events in our life, our upbringing, our culture, and the people that we look up to.

All these form our thought patterns and our thought patterns determine the decisions that we make and that in turn affects the way we live. So if you find yourself unsatisfied with your life, relationships, work anything at all. You might want to take some time and evaluate what are the types of influences that you are allowing to surround you. What information is coming into your mind? What are you listening to? Who are you hanging out with? All of these things influence the way we process our thoughts.

I have mentioned this before but there is so much to learn from children. They are incredibly creative in their thoughts they have an unlimited imagination. Before you say something, I know that you are thinking that they don’t have any bills to pay, issues in life, no responsibilities. But you have something they don’t and that is the freedom to do whatever you want to do.

Let that sink in…

YOU HAVE A CHOICE!!!

So that being said, let’s choose to have the right mindset, and thoughts so that our lives change and we can live the best life we have all expressed we want to live.

Make the decision today to choose to be around positive people, make the decision to choose to see life differently including the hard things that come your way.

The question is not why is this happening to me? The real question is; what am I to learn about this situation? It’s realizing that your happiness does not depend on anything but deciding to be happy. It’s realizing that even when things are not going as planned you can still have a positive attitude.

Why?

Because you want to live the best life ever. And for that to happen you have to have the best attitude ever…!!
Makes sense?

You are in control of the decisions that you make, that is the reason why you must look around you and check yourself to see if the majority of the people and the things that are happening are negative. If that is the the case, then that is a reflection of where your mindset is and you then make the CHOICE to change it.

I know that life is not rainbows and unicorns and that we all have that bad day, where we are just pi**ed at life and don’t want to hear the cliche's that we are all very familiar with.

But we must make it a way of life to make the right choices for the goals that we want to accomplish. That can only be done if our thoughts are aligned positively in faith with the goals we want to reach.

Make good choices, love yourself, stay positive, and have faith… You got this!!

PERSEVERANCE

Quitting is something that I have been taught growing up is not an option. I wasn’t even allowed to even ponder the idea.

Realistically speaking we have all had thoughts of giving up. And have become restless pursuing that one thing that is so important to us that we know that we must accomplish. It’s part of our purpose, it could possibly even change the course of our lives and others lives as well. But, obstacles are a reality and fear of failing is exhausting so we grow weary and thoughts of quitting, abandoning that very thing that you want to pursue happens.

Guess what that makes you human. So let’s shift how we think about this subject. I learned to change the guilt of wanting to quit into understanding that the obstacles that come about in the pursue of that dream, goal, purpose whatever it is that you are pursuing; was as important as the action in itself.

Let’s unpack this concept obstacles appear as a sign of something to be learned, an opportunity to be looked into an additional idea to be added to the original plan. Once we shift the way we see the obstacles they become part of the process and we have then obtained a new skill. You see the original thought that we were pursuing will not get easier to achieve possibly. But the process to get to the end goal will become one that you will be encouraged to continue to pursue and not quit.

My son is a performer and he is very talented, and I always remind him that most successes don’t come from talent, they come from pursuing greatness and success. You can have all the talent, intelligence and skills in the world but if you sit and wait for things to happen without persevering or pursuing them because you encounter obstacles in the way then you will have deprived yourself of the most amazing learning opportunities in life and possibly would have neglected others to have learned something alongside with you.

So take one step at a time ask yourself what am I to learn from this obstacle and move forward…

Most of us hate to admit that we have the ability to become experts in things that delay us from completing the task that we have set out to achieve. 🎯

I want us to think about the most common behavior we are all guilty of, that is PROCRASTINATION.

The list of reasons for why we procrastinate goes anywhere from fear, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of judgment, rejection, on and on. However, most recently I have discovered that there is such thing as being an expert at procrastinating and the behavior exhibited at this level is something like this; Sets out a list of things to do that is so long and tedious that will prevent us from doing the one thing that we should be doing in the first place. Therefore, we trick our mind that we haven’t accomplished that important goal BECAUSE WE ARE TOO BUSY.

Fear not my friend this is a behavior and if you are willing you can change your behaviors.

1. Stop labeling yourself as the behavior in other words stop labeling yourself a PROCRASTINATOR.
2. Identify what you are avoiding and remind yourself why it was important in the first place
3. What is the positive result of procrastinating that goal or task. MOST LIKELY THERE IS MORE TO GAIN IN COMPLETING IT!
4. Break down that goal into smaller goals and celebrate the tasks completed
5. Find someone in your circle that can be your accountability person.

I know it’s easier said than done. But the more you delay what you really want to do with things that are meaningless, and that don’t bring joy to yourself the longer you are delaying the fulfillment of your purpose.
