So, sometimes someone asks for an orchid to be virus tested that I'm selling. A lot of times I already test them before offering them for sale. This Cattleya Fabia 'Lucky #5' out of the Carter and Holmes breeding stock was not tested before listing. One reason is I was out of test kits and had them ordered, but they didn't arrive soon enough. I am blessed to be around some GREAT orchid people. I was able to get a test kit from one of them, and testing the orchid in front of many people, I can deem this fabulous C. Fabia CyMV and ORSV VIRUS NEGATIVE! The photos tell some of the story. I nipped the tip of one leaf, and macerated the tissue in the reagent solution. Put the test strip in, and you can see the results. It is a listed orchid on EBay, and I regret not being able to edit the written description, though I added the test photos to the listing. If you know anyone looking for a Fabia, tell them to BID EARLY AND OFTEN! I think there might be some entertainment as this auction closes because this plant is quite rare, and is a proven breeder! The cross was made originally in 1894 in the Victorian Age of Orchids. This is a remake of the cross, but I don't know the age of the plant - I've had it many years. Let me know if you have any questions!
