Another evaluator posted into an evaluator support group that there is an evaluator attempting to do homeschool evaluations with a temporary teaching certificate...

This is not a valid homeschool evaluation, in order to evaluate a student in the State of Florida you must have a valid, professional level teaching certificate. It does not allow a temporary certificate to be used. (Similar to permanent residency vs a work visa)

It's getting to be that time of the year again!

Homeschool evaluations are still only 25$ or I am on EMA as well. Portfolio evaluations are being held for the most part on Google Meets this year.

I am considering planning a day to be in Plant City possibly as this was my home base for years. It would most likely be in July. Details to follow if I get that far.

What do you need to pass a homeschool evaluation in the state of Florida?

A.) A log of educational activities. (Such as calendars, agendas, table of contents with check marks, Facebook album posts, or just about anything else that shows activities deemed educational by the parent)

B.) Samples, pictures or videos of anything taught this school year. Think show and tell. This is where my child started, this is how they progressed and this is where they ended their homeschool year.

C.) A list of reading materials (does not require authors, no numeric number is mentioned, only uses the plural version of word... so it is assumed even 2 would suffice) including comic books, articles, news stories, magazines, books, curriculum.

D.) A certified Florida teacher holding a certificate in academic subjects shall review the portfolio AND hold a discussion with the student.

The parent will receive the results of the portfolio evaluation. The parent is responsible for sending the results into the county so that the parent can have another evaluation done if they disagree with the results.

Just remember that homeschooling is not about the workbooks and programs.

It can look like animal husbandry, wood working, art and living history...Even the splash pad being broken the other day was a learning experience as the kids tried to come up with a solution to the pumps not running (a woman started handing out red solo cups, they all began spraying each other).

Most importantly grow together.❤️

Being the parent of an autistic comes with unique challenges, even if I have similar unique challenges... For example, my daughter struggles with interoception to the point she can struggle with how high her pain tolerance is...

This week she was diagnosed with a double ear infection with a sinus infection. Then to top off the lunacy, my daughter told me she chipped her molar ("I'm not sure a long time ago") and it is stuck in between two teeth. "Can you get it out? It feels odd." I'm a bit horrified at what I found with a flashlight.

If you are struggling with your unique home, I get it. Trust me when I say I get it.

It's getting to be that time of the year:) pep testing is due May 30th.

If you have a homeschool evaluation coming, you can complete it generally up to 6 weeks early (I'm getting this question a lot ATM).

Just remember, education is deemed by the parents in the free state of Florida ... For instance, recently I had some gun range targets as part of a kiddos portfolio! What a super cool use of freedom and I'm 💯 here for it!
