Clark HS students had a blast at our annual Poetry Slam! Congratulations to all of the presenters–everyone did a fantastic job, and a special thanks to our judges (Ms. Provost, Ms. Benavidez, Mr. Kurdi, and Mr. O'neil). Mr. Kurdi and Mr. O'Neil (published poets) recited original poems for us as well. What a special treat!

2nd place-Azure Shrewsbury with Mildew
3rd place-Kahlyn Loyd with Setting Sun

Yesterday, AVID students traveled to Thomas Elementary to teach financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

In AVID students engage in activities to enhance their leadership, public speaking, teamwork, critical thinking, and presentation skills. To reach those goals, each year they partner with JA High School Heroes®, a program that provides leadership development opportunities to high school students who deliver JA learning experiences in local elementary schools.A big thank you to Kenya Forrest and Ashley Hendrickson for leading the program!

We’re thrilled to share some amazing news from the world of Speech & Debate!

Please join us in congratulating Gargi Garg (Original Oratory) and Dharshana Balaji (Humorous Interpretation) for qualifying to compete at the National Speech & Debate Tournament this summer! This is the most prestigious high school speech and debate tournament in the country — and making it there is no small feat.

To put it in perspective:
• Out of 41 schools in our North Dallas district, only 9 qualified anyone to nationals this year.
• Only the top 3 students in each event earn a spot.
• Both of our qualifiers are only sophomores. Most national qualifiers are juniors and seniors, so this speaks volumes about their talent, dedication, and work ethic.
• Oh — and Dharshana didn’t just qualify — she won first place in her event!
