Kids use a lot of brainpower on testing day.
They are focusing hard, working through tasks that may already feel hard, and putting in a lot of effort. Sometimes a snack, a short break, and a little extra care can make a real difference.
Part of our job is not just identifying learning, attention, or academic challenges, but also making sure each student is cared for along the way.

You KNOW they studied. You sat with them. You quizzed them. They understood.
Then the test came back and it's like they'd never seen the material.
Poor test performance isn't always a lack of effort. Sometimes, the real issue is how information is processed, stored, or accessed when it's time to take that test.
An evaluation can help give families a better understanding of what's really happening, and what supports are needed to make sure all that hard work pays off.

Summer feels far away. It's not.
This week on Let's Talk Learning Disabilities, we break down why families who schedule evaluations over summer start fall with a plan instead of a prayer.
If you've been saying "maybe after this school year" — this episode is your sign.

Our directors were thrilled to attend the 2026 IECA--Independent Educational Consultants Association Conference in Baltimore!
We always love the chance to connect with independent educational consultants, tutors and other fantastic professionals who are working to support students and families through the academic planning process!
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, shared stories, or joined us for a live Let’s Talk Learning Disabilities podcast interview. These conversations are exactly why we love events like this.

Can name every dinosaur that ever lived. Cannot remember their locker combination.
Knows the entire Marvel timeline. Forgot they had a test today.
This isn't laziness — it's how an interest-driven brain stores information. Passion is the filing system.
Your kid's memory works. It just has its own rules.

C's and B's. "Meets expectations." Teacher says he's "doing fine."
But you watch him work three times harder than his sister for the same grade. You see the Sunday-night stomachaches. The "I hate school" that started in third grade.
Report cards measure output. They don't measure what it costs a kid to get there.

Parents don't always see how much thought goes into helping a child feel comfortable enough to fully engage during our testing process.
Whether testing happens in person or online, comfort matters more than you realize. Some students need time to warm up. Some need snack breaks, pacing adjustments, or small ways to regulate along the way.
'Testing' might sound intimidating, but some of the most meaningful answers come when a child begins to relax and show us how they think, learn, and respond.
Our goal isn't just to gather test scores, but to create the kind of space where a child can feel understood.

No, letters don't flip around on the page. That's not how dyslexia works.
Dyslexia is about how the brain processes written language — connecting sounds to symbols. It has nothing to do with vision.
The backwards-letters myth has kept families from seeking answers for decades. Let's stop spreading it.

You brought it up at the conference. They smiled and said "let's just give it time."
You mentioned it to the pediatrician. "All kids develop differently."
Sometimes families are encouraged to wait and see if things improve with time, but concerns about learning or attention shouldn't become a crisis before they're taken seriously.
If you've been left with more questions than answers, an evaluation can help identify what may be getting in the way of your child's learning success, and provide a clearer path forward.
