In partnership with the Social Action Committee at Adat Chaverim, we had an incredible Social Action Mitzvah weekend this MLK weekend!
The HLC led us in meaningful worship during our Social Justice Shabbat on Friday night, and we followed it with a meaningful Social Action Mitzvah Day on Sunday! We decorated boxes for Lovepacs Plano, packed snack bags for Tango Charities and made hats for cancer patients.
Hineni Learning Center at Adat Chaverim
Adat Chaverim means 'community of friends'. This is at the core of everything we do at our congregation.
Our temple is warm, inviting and friendly and our religious school focuses on friendship as well as academics.

Shalom from Israel! I am so happy to be back in Eretz Yisrael, even if it is only for a few days. Even though I only arrived last night, I already have things to share. The first is this picture. As I went to get my luggage, even before I went through customs, the faces of the hostages meet me, reminding me this is a different place since the last time I was here.
The second is more of a story. I stayed with friends last night who I make sure to see every time I am in Israel. They are more like family. Anyway, they have four kids, one of their sons, since October 7, had a precious baby boy. He is doing army service in Gaza and was able to come home for both the birth and the bris. The juxtaposition of him fighting in Gaza, yet the IDF allowed to come home for this momentous event in his life struck me.
His father spent a lot of his early army service as a spy and went back to do reserve duty for a month or so following the October 7 attack to help with intelligence. He shared a few things I'd like to share with you now:
1. They found data bases that said there are over 150,000 members of Hamas in Gaza alone. All of them are not fighters, but many of them keep ammunitions and such in their homes for the fight.
2. I don't think we can truly grasp the amount or complexity of the tunnels. There is an entrance every third or fourth house.
3. His primary job during his reserve service was keeping Palestinian civilians safe. He had to figure out where they are, and work around them, even at the expense of IDF lives. Which made me think how that complicates data. When you refer to number one (above) and remember that when Hamas puts out their numbers - they include their people as well, It is hard to judge what those numbers really mean. It also makes me wonder how and why so many civilian Palestinians are still dying.
4. The number of Palestinian deaths bothers my friends as well. And yet they worry daily for their son's life.
And I'll leave you with a fun fact! I saw Rabbi Adam at Ben Gurion Airport!
L'Shalom
