Interview with a Struggling Executive

An Interview with an Executive Struggling to Land Their Next Role
Executive Job Seeker:
Every week without a job offer feels like lost income and momentum. It’s been months since I began the job search process, and so far, I’ve sent out hundreds of resumes with hardly any responses. When I do get a response, I don’t seem to get the offer. Either they say they have other people to interview and I was one of the first, or I don’t hear a thing, then later I hear they went with someone who was a better fit. I feel like I’ve lost my mojo. I’m not sure if I have what it takes to compete. I’m great at what I do for a living, but interviewing is new for me. So, I’m looking for someone who can help me get through this challenge in my life.
Chief Coaching Officer:
How is this affecting your income level? Did you receive a severance package?
Executive Job Seeker:
Yes, I did, but it’s beginning to dwindle. Soon I’ll have to start dipping into my savings to maintain my current lifestyle. I’ve got kids in college and a wife who just went back to school to get her master’s.
Chief Coaching Officer:
Is this affecting your relationship?
Executive Job Seeker:
Yes, because we’ve had to start conserving our spending until I land another role. She isn’t working, so it all falls on me.
Chief Coaching Officer:
How about your sleep?
Executive Job Seeker:
I sleep alright, but when I wake up and realize I still don’t have a job, I feel butterflies in my chest.
Chief Coaching Officer:
Okay, what happens if you don’t get a job within the next six months?
Executive Job Seeker:
Then I’m toast. Most of my savings will be gone, and my wife will have to give up her education plans to go back to work until we can save enough money for her to return to school for her master’s.
Chief Coaching Officer:
What would you wish would happen?
Executive Job Seeker:
Ha… that’s a funny question. You know what I’m going to say. I want to land an executive role within the salary range I’ve grown accustomed to.
Chief Coaching Officer:
What have you done to reach that goal?
Executive Job Seeker:
Ha, you’re being really funny today… I’ve done everything. I’ve sent out resumes, networked, called around, sent out more resumes. I even paid someone $400 to redo my resume. I worked on my LinkedIn page. I mean, everything I could think of. Yet nothing changed. I had some interviews for jobs I really wanted, but I was either the first to interview or they didn’t select me for the role. I don’t know why.
Chief Coaching Officer:
Do you think getting help from someone who has guided and coached hundreds of executives to land their dream roles, secure the salaries they deserve, and transform into leaders who command the room would be worth your time?
Executive Job Seeker:
Well, that depends on the price.
Chief Coaching Officer:
What is the price of not getting a role like your last one? Are you willing to wait six more months?
My coaching program is not for everyone—it’s for people ready to put everything they’ve got into achieving a true transformation within themselves and the way they command the room in front of an executive search panel/board.
We start with mindset. Why mindset? If we were to listen back to your story at the beginning of this conversation, we’d hear your frustrations and fear. One of the reasons you’re not being selected is that they’re looking for someone confident and self-assured, someone they can hand over the keys to the car that drives their operations. You may feel you’re portraying confidence, but you’re faking it. People are smart, and they can sniff that out.
Next, we work on your return-on-investment background, using strategies that no one else is teaching to help you gain the confidence and admiration of the hiring manager. Most people are excellent at what they do, but they haven’t been educated on how to sell themselves to total strangers, convincing them to hand over six figures to run their ship. Think about that.”
Executive Job Seeker:
I never thought about it that way, but you are right.
Chief Coaching Officer:
We work on Mindset, Presidential Messaging, the OMC Chart (a tool you can use forever), Executive Storytelling, Strategic Conversations, Winning over the Panel Interview, Owning the Room, catapulting past your competition, and ultimately winning the role.
Not only that, your executive transformation will build your confidence even further when it comes time to step into your new position. Our program has a 98% success rate—the 2% who did not succeed were simply not prepared to do the work required for total transformation.
This is not a generic program. You are hiring someone who can elevate your confidence, teach you to speak effectively about your return on investment, align you with organizational culture, win over a panel of diverse personalities, and position you to be pursued by multiple organizations at the same time. It works every time
Executive Job Seeker:
“You know what, you’re right. I can see now that I’ve been trying to fake confidence instead of truly owning it. That’s probably why I keep getting overlooked. I don’t want to waste another six months sending out resumes and hoping for the best. If your program can help me rebuild my confidence, command the room, and finally land the kind of role I deserve, then I’m ready to do the work. I can’t afford to keep losing time, money, and momentum—I need this transformation now.”
Chief Coaching Officer:
“Are you ready to transform yourself right now?
Let’s do it!”

Yay! Another WIN!

I am so proud to share this story because it shows the power of coaching and how deeply it can transform a life. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my methods work and watching someone rise again after being knocked down.

Dana gave five years of loyal service in her executive role. She worked tirelessly, cared for her team, and delivered results. Then, without warning, she was fired. It wasn’t because of her performance. A new administration came in and wanted their own family member in her seat. Dana was devastated. Her confidence collapsed, and she began to believe she wasn’t good enough.
In the first two months of unemployment, she faced rejection after rejection. She forgot the millions she had helped her company earn. She forgot her worth.

That’s when she came to me.

Together, we rebuilt her confidence step by step. I helped her remember her achievements, tell her story with strength, and prepare for tough interviews. We worked on her mindset, her health, and her presence until she stopped chasing jobs and started attracting them.

During her panel interview, Dana faced her toughest critic, a woman known for blocking candidates. But by the end, that same woman walked Dana down the hall and said, “I’m impressed. No one has ever asked the panel the kind of questions you did.”
Dana was the first candidate to interview, which usually means being forgotten. But I told her, “Trust me. They’ll come back to you. No one else will be as prepared.”

And today, they did.

Dana didn’t just get the job, she exceeded every expectation. She was promoted from Associate Director of Nursing Critical Care to AVP of all Nursing Modalities. She was offered a six-figure salary, bonus incentives, a $20,000 sign-on bonus, full relocation, excellent benefits, and more.

Her story is proof that when you reclaim your confidence and learn to tell your story with power, rejection can turn into opportunity. Coaching gave Dana the tools to rise again, and I am honored to have walked beside her on this journey.

Interviewing Isn’t a Guessing Game—It’s a Communication Art
Too many professionals approach interviews like a pop quiz—hoping they’ll get lucky with the questions, rehearsing generic answers, and praying their nerves don’t take over. But interviewing isn’t about luck. It’s about language.

At its core, interviewing is a communication art. It’s the ability to translate your experience into impact, your skills into solutions, and your story into strategy. The most successful candidates don’t just answer questions—they shape the conversation. They guide the interviewer toward a clear understanding of their value.

Of course, fear is part of the process. Even seasoned executives feel it. But fear doesn’t have to be a barrier. In fact, it can be a signal: this matters. The key is preparation. Not just rehearsing answers, but preparing your mindset, your message, and your method.

When you know what you bring to the table—and how to communicate it—fear loses its grip.

And here’s the shift that changes everything: the job search isn’t a hunt. It’s a campaign.

A hunt is reactive. A campaign is strategic. It’s built on positioning, messaging, and consistency. Every resume, every conversation, every interview is part of a larger narrative. The goal isn’t just to get hired—it’s to influence how decision-makers perceive your value.

Helpful Tips to Apply Right Now:
• Before your next interview, write down three specific ways you’ve created impact in past roles.
• Practice saying your value out loud—not just your responsibilities, but your results.
• Reframe your mindset: you’re not being evaluated, you’re offering a solution.

Interviewing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being prepared, purposeful, and persuasive.

You already have the experience. Now it’s time to own the narrative.

🔥 Lost a high-paying role? You’re smart, accomplished, and ready to bounce back—but sending out resumes and hoping isn’t a strategy. It’s self-sabotage.

Executive interviews aren’t won with bullet points. They’re won with presence, storytelling, and emotional impact. You need to create that “Wow” moment that makes hiring managers say, “We need you.”

I’ve seen too many leaders stall out—listing “Consultant” on LinkedIn, masking gaps, and shrinking their confidence month by month. But I’ve also seen what happens when they choose differently.

One CFO went from generic resume to seven-figure offer in six weeks. Why? Because we rebuilt his brand, drilled his mindset, and turned interviews into offers.

If you’re tired of watching your income slip away one interview at a time, let’s change that.

3 Mistakes That Could Be Costing You Your Dream Role

Interviewing but still not receiving offers? You’re probably making at least one of these career-killing mistakes (and yes, they’re fixable).

Mistake #1: Leading with your résumé. If your interview strategy is just reciting bullet points, you’re already behind. Hiring managers want to hear your value, not your job history.

Mistake #2: Thinking your résumé gets you the job.
It might get you in the door, but if you don’t show you belong—as in, culture fit, leadership style, and alignment—you’re out.

Mistake #3: Weak storytelling.
Even top-tier execs lose offers because they can’t communicate their impact in a way that inspires trust and connection.

The good news? There’s a smarter way to position yourself as the obvious choice and I’ll show you exactly how.

When I was 19, I lost my mom.

She wasn’t just my mother, she was my best friend, my teacher, my guide. A strong, visionary woman who ran her own business before people called that “entrepreneurship.” A few weeks before she passed, she got to watch me audition for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. A school that’s launched so many actor legends. I’ll never forget the way she looked at me afterwards, proud, confident, like she knew I was stepping into something extraordinary.

And then she was gone.

I didn’t go to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. That dream somehow faded. Without her, it just didn’t feel the same. But after sitting in that silence for a while… I chose to rebuild. To take everything she poured into me and turned it into something meaningful. Instead of chasing a spotlight, I started building one, for others.

That choice took me into leadership, coaching, and helping professionals remember who they really are, especially when the world tries to forget.

So, when someone tells me they feel stuck, overlooked, or invisible in their executive search… I get it. I’ve felt that too.

Here are five things that helped me rebuild, and maybe they’ll help you, too:

1. Reconnect with your legacy. Look back on what you’ve done, not just the roles, but how you made a difference.

2. Audit how you show up. Whether it's LinkedIn, your resume, or even your posture… make sure it reflects who you are now, not just who you were.

3. Reach out. There’s someone you haven’t spoken to in years who still remembers your brilliance. Call them.

4. Practice presence. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being sure of yourself when you speak. That energy carries.

5. Keep going. Even when it’s quiet. Even when you’re tired. Something is building. Stay ready.

You’ve led before. You will lead again. Your story isn’t over, it’s deepening.

If any part of my story resonated… if you’re navigating a hard moment or questioning what’s next, I’d love to hear from you. I’ve walked through the quiet seasons too, and I believe in what comes after.
