Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What do the kids do for 30 minutes while I'm at Bible Study?
A: We love this last 30 minutes that we often call "practice separation" time. Students are supervised by teachers in the classroom (parents move to another classroom). We work with parents and students who find this time hard at the beginning of the year. Students get to play with toys that are in a cupboard during class so this can be exciting! Students practice sharing with others and taking turns and they learn to play cooperatively. They watch each other and learn new skills and develop friendships with each other.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How big are the class sizes?
A: We like to keep our class sizes small. 10 students or less is our ideal size. This gives us plenty of space to move around and doesn't overwhelm students who may be quieter or shy. It gives us more one on one time to help students and manage their new friendships.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What kind of science can my student learn? They are so young.
A: Everything God created around us is beautiful.... and also fits under the "subject" of science. Sometimes we explore birds nests and x-rays. Sometimes we study colors and how to mix them to create new colors!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What does my baby or toddler (under 2) do while we are there? How can I juggle quality time with my student when I have another one?
A: Teachers and Staff try to play and entertain the young ones during our activity time so that you and your student can focus on learning. We pull out baby toys specifically for this time so they have something safe to play with.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How will my young child learn letters?

Q: I'm a working mom and I'm not able to bring my child. Can I send someone else?

Frequently Asked Questions about Power Hour:
Q: What do you teach them?
A: Most importantly, we teach them about Jesus who washed their sins away! But we also work on lots of skills including these 5 specific areas each week: science, math, literacy, fine motor (think finger strength) and gross motor (think physical movement of entire body). Each week we have lessons set up in these 5 areas that coordinate with our theme and Bible lesson for the week.

FAQ:
Q: What will my child learn? They are so young.
A: Our youngest students are learning routines and rhythems and patterns to the day. How you get ready and come to school is just as important as the routine of what they do at school each class. They learn the order to our classroom. They learn to be at circle time and how to be in a group. They learn to move around and explore different centers. Some students may only explore 2 or 3 each class, but that's ok. They learn our songs and how to participate. They learn to play together and make friends.
Older students will master the routine of our classroom and start to understand the concepts that we introduce in the centers. They will successfully complete tasks, maybe even on their own with little help. They will spend more time at harder tasks and focus on the harder learning skills before moving on. Most students will explore all 5 centers each class and find success at most tasks.
Q: What do the parents and caregivers do during class?
A: Parents and Caregivers get to TEACH:) Parents and caregivers are the first and most important teacher in a child's life. Power Hour teachers do all the work so you can come and "play" and teach your child all about the wonders around them. Each center is set up for you and has provided instructions for you to guide your student in the centers activity. Sometimes their are "easy" and "hard" tasks for a center that let you taylor the activity for your student. And sometimes your student will come up with a different and wonderful way to explore the activity that we didn't come up with and that is ok too. Teachers lead the circle times and are around to help with the centers as well.
At the end of the classroom period, children will practice separating from their parent or caregiver and have free play time with their friends in the classroom while parents and caregivers get a small break to learn more about the Bible lesson and enjoy adult discussions and conversations.
We can't wait to see you in August! Let us know if you have anymore questions. We'd love to answer them.

Power Hour is a great stepping stone from our Mornings with Mommy themed playdates to traditional drop off all day school. Caregivers still attend these once a week classes with their child, but there is more structure and academic learning than our other program. Caregivers also get a chance to practice separating from their child for small bits of time while they play. Our themes are based on Bible Lessons that we teach each week and caregivers have a chance to learn more in a short Bible study while the children play.

Star From Afar Soft Cover - Christmas Tradition– Interactive Wooden Nativity - Christian or Catholic Gift for Children
The Birth of Jesus: Christmas Hide and Seek
The night that Jesus was born the shepherds had to look for him and then the wisemen would too. Do we have a nativity star? Can we cut one out of paper?
Parent "hides" the star and child has to find it like the shepherds. Then let your child do the same and you find it.
If you are looking for a great nativity for your kids and one that has a star, we really like this one:
Star from Afar. It is an interactive story and daily Bible passages that help you get ready for Christmas and keep your focus on the star and finding it everyday and putting it back above the manger.

The Birth of Jesus: Christmas Balancing

The Birth of Jesus: Christmas Counting
Pull out a nativity or find a picture of one in a book or online. Retell the story and ask counting questions as you do. Point with your fingers and touch each object as you say and count it.
Here are some questions to get you started: How many people went to Bethlehem to be counted? (2-Mary and Joseph) How many inns or hotels were there for them to stay in? (0) How many barns were there? (1) How many animals were there in the barn? (count as many as you have)

Today you will need a balloon or a couple (any color and size) and a fly swatter or two. Blow up the balloons and use a marker to make them into bugs. Use a fly swatter to keep the balloons "flying". Swat the bugs back and forth.
*The Dollar Store has both these supplies. Also the bigger the balloon, the easier it will be for your child. The smaller the balloon, the harder it will be.

Bug Fossils | A Play Dough Invitation - Plain Vanilla Mom
His name is John: Playdough Bugs
Bugs live outside and like the dirt. Grab some playdough and a pack of dollar store bugs and let your child's creativity explode. Let the bugs crawl around or make imprints. Have them match the bug to the imprint you make or vice versa. A magnifying glass to see the details on your bugs and the imprints is fun as well as some tweezers or tongs to pick the bugs up.

His name is John: Scavenger Hunt for Bugs
Did you know that John grew up and lived in the desert? Did you know he often ate honey and grasshoppers? This week we are going to improve our school skills by using the bug theme!
Going on a scavenger hunt around the room or house helps kids remember to look around them in the world around them everyday too.
Print off one sheet for the child to mark and print the bug sheets so you can cut them out and "hide" them. Help your student mark them off on their sheet or match them up so you can play multiple times.
Have me look for things outside when we walk or look for things at the grocery store. I love going on a hunt!

Sink or Float: Toddler Science Experiment - Busy Toddler
Elijah and the Prophets: Opposites
Will it sink or will it float? Sink and float are opposites. Gather up a bunch of things from around the house that you want to test. Use a large tub, sink or even the bath tub to test your items. Then one by one see if they can guess the outcome, test there theory and then "compile the data" by making piles. Count at the end to see if you had more things that sunk or floated.

Stop and Go: The Perfect Rainy Day Preschool Activity
Elijah and the Prophets: Opposites
I love activities that combine learning and moving! Make a "stop and go" sign and practice moving and not moving. The have some great learning applications for you as well:
1. Following directions – mix it up. Try going on all fours, or only walking backwards during the “go” time, or jumping, whatever, let the leader use their imagination!
2. Recognition of sight words: Go & Stop. These will be helpful at stop signs and the like.
3. Practice looking both ways when the “stop” sign changes to “go”. Pretend you are on a street.
