We spent the day at the Community Outreach Center of Chimaltenango (the CCC), an outreach program providing tutoring, nutritious meals, Bible classes, mentoring and counseling, and more for children and teens living in underserved and impoverished communities.

When the program first began more than a decade ago, many of the children spent their weekends working at a local dump, sifting through the refuse for anything that might be used or sold for a little money. It was the only life their parents had ever known, and it was thought to be the destiny of each child. The CCC’s beginnings were humble, with a few students in a small classroom. Today, there are Montessori classes to provide little ones with a healthy head start, an after-school program for elementary students, and a higher education scholarship program for students in Junior and High School. Plus, Orphan Outreach has its first university students from the CCC.

Life isn’t easy for the students. Many live in homes with little access to electricity or running water. Parents do their best, but most are laborers hoping for stable income. During the height of the pandemic, schools were closed; but the CCC remained open and became a safe outpost for food and prayer for more than a year.

Ask the children why they like attending the CCC, and they will tell you they feel safe and loved there. They will name teachers and staff—there’s Yesenia the psychologist and Claudia the elementary school director, Dorcas who always makes sure every child feels welcomed and Gerson who always has prayers to offer. Every member of the CCC staff is invested in the students, and it shows. They know where the children live, what home life looks like, what struggles the children are facing. Ask the parents why they continue to say “yes” to the CCC, and they will tell you they’ve seen change in the lives of their kids. They’ll talk about voices that are stronger, the way the children love others, the hunger to stay in school and make a difference.

In our mission, the heart of everything is relationship. The children we serve are NOT statistics. They are unique souls deserving love and care. Just as God sets the example as Father to the fatherless, we strive to do the same to the orphaned and vulnerable children we serve around the world!

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling." Psalm 68:5

Hello from Antigua, Guatemala, the original capital of the Land of Eternal Spring. And hello from a team that continues to be overwhelmed by the Lord’s kindness and redemptive love.

We traveled to Colonia Santa Fe, a neighborhood known as a “red zone” because of the high incidence of gang activity and violence. It is here you’ll find CadaNiño (which means “every child), a community program offering tutoring, mentoring, Bible study, nutritious meals, and STEM training. Kids find safe haven and community at CadaNiño, and even children considered rivals outside the four walls are able to be friends.

We talked about the power of hope found in relationship with Jesus; the stories shared were vulnerable and real, the conversations were honest. There was time to get to know the students, and time to pray with them. And there was even time for a good meal together.

Every student at CadaNiño has experienced some form of neglect. Seventy percent of the young women have been violated sexually. Many of the students have witnessed violence or death first-hand. Food scarcity is a real threat.

And yet, they thrive.

Talk to the students, and they’ll tell you they want to be attorneys, computer programmers, educators, pastors, engineers. They want to change the world for the better, help their community grow strong, and be good to their families. Faith is at the base of it all.

And that faith shines brightly.

Today, we ask that you pray for the students of CadaNiño—for protection, for strengthened relationships with family members, for health, for favor as they continue their education. Pray for their faith to be strengthened and their love to grow deep.

Yesterday, our mission team serving in Guatemala poured out kindness like refreshing water on a summer’s day—and then danced the night away with their kings and queens at Night to Shine.

We split into two teams to make the most of the day’s opportunity to serve. One team traveled to PriceSmart to purchase critically-needed items for 141 children, young adults, women, and men with special needs who live in government homes in Quezaltenango. The other team helped to set up the ballroom for the more than 400 people who would be part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Night to Shine. Both teams served with such grace!

And last night, we crowned our kings and queens, sang and danced, laughed and honored the kids who deserve the best prom ever. Tim and Demi Tebow joined in the fun too! For teens with special needs and their families, Night to Shine is a gift beyond measure. The prom provides accommodation, and every volunteer is trained to make sure their special guest feels safe and celebrated.

Thank you for the honor of being a part of Night to Shine!

As we look to this new year, we are praying and asking the Lord to guide us in what He has in store for 2024. We are called to excellence in Christ. Consistently, we ask ourselves, "What can we do to improve the work of Orphan Outreach? How might we move from good to great in all we do?"

We commit to working for the Lord in everything we undertake, drawing inspiration from Colossians 3:23: "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."

Meet Alfredo! Those who know him well describe him as a kind, loving, and happy young man. Unfortunately, Alfredo's dad passed away a few years ago, so Alfredo currently lives with only his mom in Guatemala. Despite the challenges, Alfredo's mom works hard to provide for their family. In this journey, they are grateful for the support they receive from Down Guatemala, a ministry that provides therapeutic care and education to children with Down Syndrome, serving children and families in Guatemala City, Quezaltenango, Chimaltenango, and Mazatenango.

Alfredo enjoys school, where he actively participates and shares with his friends. When he's not hanging out with his buddies and family, you can find him watching TV, running around, or dancing, especially when it's Zumba time with his friends and their teacher, Tito. Alfredo is doing great in all his school activities. At home, he helps with chores and loves his favorite meal: pepperoni pizza, grapes, and natural juices. Before meals and bedtime, he talks to Jesus, praying for his friends, family, school, health, and future. Join us in praying for Alfredo and supporting him in his education, health, and future.

By sponsoring Alfredo with a monthly gift of $42, you provide essential support for his school, health, and overall well-being. Your sponsorship sends a powerful message, saying, "I believe in you!" Will you take a step to make a meaningful difference in Alfredo's life today?
