Hi! Iโ€™m Dr. Shameem Nazeer, emergency physician. Learning about finances wasn't something I had the time or energy for most of my career.

I make these videos because I know there are many other people like myself who deserve quick insights and information

Retirement Success Simplified: The Only 3 Factors That Matter 05/27/2026

๐Ÿ’ฐ Want to retire in the next 5 years? You don't need a financial advisor running complicated simulations. You just need to understand 3 numbers.

โœ… Your SAVINGS RATE โ€“ How much of your income you're actually setting aside. This single number has more impact on your retirement timeline than almost anything else.

โœ… Your COMPOUNDING RATE โ€“ The return on your investments over time. Watch out for fees โ€” even a 1% advisor fee quietly eats into your growth year after year.

โœ… Your TAX RATE โ€“ The sneaky one. Where you keep your money matters just as much as how much you save. The "three bucket" strategy (401k, Roth IRA, and taxable brokerage) can save you a fortune in taxes โ€” and even lower your healthcare costs in retirement.

It all starts with one simple equation: Income โˆ’ Expenses = Cash Flow. Build that first, then put it to work.

I broke it all down in my latest video ๐Ÿ‘‡

The best financial move I made last year was deciding not to do something.

I'm an ER physician. 25 years in medicine. I came to retirement planning late โ€” by circumstance and, honestly, by assumption. I figured I'd worked hard, saved what I could, and handed the rest to an advisor. That would be enough.

It wasn't.

When I finally sat down and ran my own numbers on a Roth conversion everyone kept telling me to do, what I found made me stop completely.

There are five situations where a conversion costs you more than doing nothing at all.

Most people never see them coming.

The Doctor Investor 5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Do A Roth Conversion

As an ER doctor, Iโ€™ve had some of the hardest conversations anyone can have.

Among those is telling someone their spouse has died.

And what happens after that momentโ€ฆ is something most families are completely unprepared for.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Taxes can go UP
๐Ÿ‘‰ Healthcare costs can INCREASE
๐Ÿ‘‰ Income often goes DOWN

All at the same time.

This is called the **widowโ€™s penalty** โ€” and itโ€™s built into how our system works.

Itโ€™s not about bad decisions.
Itโ€™s about how the rules change:

โ€ข Your tax brackets shrink
โ€ข Your deductions get cut in half
โ€ข Social Security becomes more taxable
โ€ข Medicare premiums can increase
โ€ข ACA subsidies can disappear

I made a video breaking this down in simple terms โ€” and more importantly, what you can do about it.

Because hereโ€™s the key:

โš ๏ธ The best time to plan for this is **before** it happens.

If youโ€™re married and thinking about retirement in the next 5โ€“10 years, this is something you need to understand.

Forget Your Freedom Number - Do This Instead 03/10/2026

I spent 20 years as an ER doctor telling myself I had one problem: I hadn't saved enough.

I was wrong.

Single mom. Kids in college. Burned out. Not sleeping. I thought the only path forward was to work harder and save more.

But the real issue wasn't my portfolio balance โ€” it was that I was only pulling one lever when I had three.

Time. Income. Spending.

Shift just one of them, and your retirement timeline changes. Shift all three? Everything changes.

In my latest video, I break down exactly how I used all three levers to redesign my own path โ€” and how you can too, even if you feel like you're behind.

This is where people get into trouble.

You must leave your job in or after the year you turn 55. That can mean retiring, quitting, or being laid off.

Second, the money must remain inside that employerโ€™s retirement plan. If you roll it into an IRA, the Rule of 55 no longer applies.

Also remember, you can only access your current employerโ€™s 401k, not older plans from prior jobs.

Understanding the rules before you act is critical.

If you are considering early retirement or career flexibility, read the full article so you avoid costly mistakes. https://blog.thedoctorinvestor.com/blogs/b/the-rule-of-55
