Gilkey families, we’re getting closer to the start of a new school year!

Join us for our Gilkey Elementary Open House on Wednesday, August 26 from 5:00–6:30 PM.

Come meet your teacher, explore classrooms, reconnect with classmates, meet new families, and bring in your school supplies before the first day.

We’re excited to welcome our Young 5s through 5th-grade students and families back to Gilkey. We can’t wait to see everyone and kick off another great school year together!

🎙️ Something exciting is coming to Gilkey this fall!

We are thrilled to share that The Gilkey Connection, our brand-new school podcast, will be launching in Fall 2026!

This podcast will be another way for families to feel connected to all the amazing things happening inside our school. Each episode will give you a peek into life at Gilkey, including conversations with staff, updates on school happenings, helpful tips for supporting your child at home, and stories that celebrate our students, staff, and school community.

Our goal is simple: to strengthen the connection between school and home in a fun, meaningful, and easy-to-listen-to way.

Whether you’re driving to practice, making dinner, or enjoying a quiet moment, The Gilkey Connection will be a place where families can hear more about the heart of Gilkey and the people who make it so special.

Coming Fall 2026!

Starting next fall, the Boys on the Move running club for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys will be offered here at Gilkey! Sign ups for this program will begin August 1, 2026. More information will be sent prior to the date.

This is a friendly reminder that today is a half day of school with dismissal at 11:45 AM! There is also no school on Friday, May 22, or on Monday, May 25. Have a wonderful weekend!

As a friendly reminder, we have some important calendar dates to note:

🗓️ MEMORIAL BREAK: There is no school from Friday, May 22-Monday, May 25

As Administrative Professionals Day comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate two incredible members of our Gilkey family—Monica and Ashley. 💙

Today may be wrapping up, but our appreciation for everything they do certainly doesn’t end here. Monica and Ashley are the behind-the-scenes heroes who keep our school running smoothly each and every day. From supporting students and staff to handling the countless details that keep Gilkey moving forward, they do it all with kindness, patience, and a smile.

We are so grateful for the care, dedication, and positivity they bring to our building. Gilkey is a better place because of them.

Be sure to give them a little extra love when you see them tomorrow—we appreciate you more than words can say! 🦎✨

Even after Spring Break, we’re still feeling the energy from an incredible March is Reading Month at Gilkey! 🌊📚

We wrapped up our Dive Into Books celebration with an unforgettable assembly featuring The NED Shows and the amazing Matt. Our Geckos were completely engaged—laughing, cheering, and being reminded to Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. It was the perfect way to celebrate a month full of reading, growth, and school spirit.

One of the highlights we’re still talking about? Our class-created music videos for the Why Do We Read? song! 🎥 The creativity, teamwork, and excitement our students showed was something truly special. That song became the heartbeat of our school in March, and it’s been so fun hearing students still singing it even now!

And of course… we can’t forget our Top Scuba Squad Champions! 🏆
🐠 K–2 Champion: Mrs. Funk’s Class
🐬 3–5 Champion: Mrs. Heath’s Class

These classes went all in—earning the most points throughout the month and showing what it truly means to be passionate, dedicated readers. We are so proud of them!

Also, a HUGE thank you to our Gilkey Parents Club for providing every student with a book for March is Reading Month! To our staff, students, and families—thank you for making this month so meaningful. The excitement didn’t stop when March ended… it’s something we’ve carried right into April.

Because at Gilkey, reading isn’t just a month-long event… it’s who we are. 💙📖✨
