We were called out yesterday evening to what was described as an ‘injured climber in the Notch’. As we got closer, we learned that Medics from Cambridge had reached the subject and the issue was medical, not trauma. We scrambled up to his location and found some young boulderers who had taken a break from climbing to go exploring. They were in steep rocky terrain when one of them had suffered a medical event that necessitated the 911 call. After being assessed by the Medics, it was established that with some interventions and support, he would be able to walk out.

While the Medics worked, two of the Cambridge Fire crew did some exploring to identify the easiest route down, flagging trees to mark the route. Once the subject was ready to move, we put a harness and a short rope on him and were able to provide some assistance. Although pale and wobbly, he had some fight in him and was determined to get out under his own steam. We had folk staged to bring the litter in if necessary, but our subject put one foot in front of the other and made it happen. The timing was perfect – another half hour and we would have been using headlamps.

Credit goes to his friends who took good care of him, shuttling clothing and water up to him and assisting in the route-finding. Everyone should have loyal capable friends like that. Meanwhile, we enjoyed seeing our friends from Cambridge Fire and EMS, sharing reminiscences of missions gone by and looking forward to the season ahead.

Today we found ourselves at the Pumphouse Waterpark! We a spent the day working with the awesome maintenance team applying rope access solutions for hard to reach areas to perform annual maintenance. These systems will provide better efficiency and greater worker safety for the team that’s keeping the water flowing and the slides sliding!

Spent the day in the rain conducting an Rope Rescue Level 1 & 2 evaluation with for . These students spent 5 full days learning individual and team skills culminating in a written and practical assessments. These students took the wet weather in stride.
