Wayland Baptist University mourns the passing of Mark Anthony Pair, whose extraordinary career at Wayland spanned more than three decades.
Pair joined the Wayland music faculty in fall 1966 and retired in spring 2002 after 36 years of service. During his tenure, he taught piano, music theory, form and analysis, and other courses; directed the men’s chorus; and chaired the music theory area. He later continued his association with the university as Piano Artist in Residence.
Through his teaching and more than 90 professional piano concerts at Wayland, Pair enriched the university’s musical life and influenced generations of students and colleagues. His artistry, commitment to excellence and faithful service helped shape Wayland’s strong musical tradition.
The Wayland community extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends, former students and all whose lives were touched by his music and teaching.
