Junior Commercial Steer Feeding & Management Show 🐄

📢 Calling all 4-H and FFA members in grades 1-12!
This project is designed to teach real-world beef cattle production skills through a hands-on feeding and management program.

Participants will enter a pen of 2 commercial steers and be evaluated on:

✅ Beef Industry Knowledge
✅ Feeding & Management Practices
✅ Record Keeping
✅ Animal Health
✅ Oral Interview Skills
✅ Retail Meat Identification
✅ Economics & Cost Analysis

📅 Important Dates • Aug. 29, 2026 - Initial Weigh-In (TTU Beef Center, New Deal)
• Sept. 12, 2026 - Secondary Weigh-In (if needed)
• Jan. 9, 2027 - Final Weigh-In & Ultrasound
• Jan. 12, 2027 - Record Books Due
• Jan. 15, 2027 - Quiz, Meat ID & Interviews
• Jan. 17, 2027 - Awards Presentation

📋 GENERAL RULES
• Entry Fee: $20 per Exhibitor
• Open to 1st-12th Grade 4-H & FFA Members
• Immediate family members may share one pen of steers
• Steers must be owned before the Initial Weigh-In
• Final Weight Range: 1,150-1,650 lbs. (shrunk basis)
• Steers outside the required weight range will receive point deductions
• Steers must be fed and managed daily by the exhibitor(s)
• Feeding at commercial feedyards is prohibited
• Steers must be fed separately from other livestock projects
• Non-Terminal Show

🏆 Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will receive: • Buckle • Banner • Monetary Premium

The NWS fly requires an open wound to lay her eggs. Infestations can start from cuts, scrapes, and bites from insects or other animals. Inspect frequently and treat wounds promptly to prevent an infestation.
