Junior Commercial Steer Feeding & Management Show πŸ„

πŸ“’ Calling all 4-H and FFA members in grades 1-12!
This project is designed to teach real-world beef cattle production skills through a hands-on feeding and management program.

Participants will enter a pen of 2 commercial steers and be evaluated on:

βœ… Beef Industry Knowledge
βœ… Feeding & Management Practices
βœ… Record Keeping
βœ… Animal Health
βœ… Oral Interview Skills
βœ… Retail Meat Identification
βœ… Economics & Cost Analysis

πŸ“… Important Dates β€’ Aug. 29, 2026 - Initial Weigh-In (TTU Beef Center, New Deal)
β€’ Sept. 12, 2026 - Secondary Weigh-In (if needed)
β€’ Jan. 9, 2027 - Final Weigh-In & Ultrasound
β€’ Jan. 12, 2027 - Record Books Due
β€’ Jan. 15, 2027 - Quiz, Meat ID & Interviews
β€’ Jan. 17, 2027 - Awards Presentation

πŸ“‹ GENERAL RULES
β€’ Entry Fee: $20 per Exhibitor
β€’ Open to 1st-12th Grade 4-H & FFA Members
β€’ Immediate family members may share one pen of steers
β€’ Steers must be owned before the Initial Weigh-In
β€’ Final Weight Range: 1,150-1,650 lbs. (shrunk basis)
β€’ Steers outside the required weight range will receive point deductions
β€’ Steers must be fed and managed daily by the exhibitor(s)
β€’ Feeding at commercial feedyards is prohibited
β€’ Steers must be fed separately from other livestock projects
β€’ Non-Terminal Show
