Beginning Steps Christian Preschool

Due to ongoing staffing issues, we have made the difficult decision to close Beginning Steps.

Our last day of service was Dec. 22. Now that we have had a moment to breathe, we want to say thank you.

Thank you to every staff member who has prayed, taught, loved and cared for the children of Beginning Steps over the course of the last 28 years. Thank you to every parent who allowed Beginning Steps the privilege to love, protect, nurture and care for your child. Thank you First Baptist Church of Plainfield for providing this ministry. We thank God for every child who was carried, crawled, or walked through the doors of Beginning Steps and the privilege we have had to serve our community through this program. We will continue to pray for every member of our community as we step into this new chapter, and we already miss each of you dearly.

Beginning Steps Christian Preschool

Today our preschool class opened up a pumpkin and even tasted the seeds that Ms. Teri baked for us to try!

1. Christian attitudes and teachings shall be a constant part of the teacher’s job. Children should be taught to pray. A weekly Bible lesson will be presented to the children.
2. Be creative and take initiative in the classroom in all areas of play and learning activities.
3. Be willing to help all students who may be mentally, emotionally, and physically handicapped, as well as those who are endowed with good health and intellect.
4. Be willing to consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socio-economic background.
5. Help the children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
6. Discuss a child’s progress or behavior with the parents as needed. With the Director present, conduct parent-teacher conference when needed.
7. Report pertinent information about children and their families to the Director.
8. Complete child’s daily sheet if applicable.
9. Plan, organize and participate in scheduled programs, including Open House, Christmas Program and Graduation.
10. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and recommended training programs (CPR and First Aid required).
11. Carry out safety and first aid when required.
12. Prepare the classroom as instructed for church activities. Clean any room that you are using before you leave. Help keep materials and equipment orderly and replaced when not in use.
13. Encouraged to attend meetings and conferences of professional organizations appropriate to early childhood educators.

1. Work under the direction of the Beginning Steps Director, the Pastoral Staff and First Baptist Child Care Ministry Board.

2. Cover all Beginning Steps Director responsibilities in the absence of the Beginning Steps Director.

3. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Child Care Ministry Board and attend their meetings and its committees in the absence of the Beginning Steps Director.

4. Work in collaboration with Pastoral and Beginning Steps staff to meet the objectives of the ministry.

5. Understand and conform to health, safety and licensing regulations.

6. Keep abreast of research and new developments in the field of early childhood.

7. Actively participate in professional organizations pertaining to early childhood.

8. Supervise the management of classroom schedules.

9. Assist the Beginning Steps Director in handling matters related to the administration of the Beginning Steps Ministry and to specific aspects thereof.

10. Assist the Beginning Steps Director in developing short-term and long-term plans for the overall growth of the Beginning Steps Ministry.

11. Assist the Beginning Steps Director in administering the policies of admission, attendance, tuition and educational goals.
